Crazy things seem to happen to OU fans in New Orleans.

The obvious irony of course is that LSU culture is the country’s best hospitality culture. We want you to enjoy yourself. We get you with free food and drink. We invite you to partake with a great sincerity. Now if you are going to have a game in New Orleans and pin every Louisiana bottom dweller’s bad behavior on LSU well I can’t help you. That’s a bit like going to a USC game and saying USC fans are rude because you got jacked in Compton. Regardless, they are petrified of us. Which is good. After the game their hatred of all things LSU will be so ingrained in their memories that they will have convulsions if they even see an LSU highlight. And fwiw, I was in Nola and at that game. OU fans were boring, humorless and entitled . My impression was that they were outraged that we were having fun.

A-fricking-men.

the few sooner fans I remember in the quarter that had trouble were cocky and arrogant and they did catch hell.
Don't be cocky when you are out numbered 50 to 1.

Just south of I-20 in Shreveport, Louisiana, where OU fans would turn south for New Orleans, stood the shirtless guys, in cold weather, holding up spray-painted signs that read “Tiger bait.”

Wait a minute. They're actually saying that just South of Shreveport, about 270 miles North of NOLA, guys were standing shirtless in cold weather and holding "Tiger Bait" signs? I got a few things to say about that:

1) I don't believe it. But if it did happen, that's some hella dedication right there. If I saw another team doing that to me 270 miles away from the venue for the game I would be impressed.

2) OU fans are notorious for acting like self-entitled college football pricks. Why would either a chant of 'Tiger Bait' or a sign saying 'Tiger Bait' have anybody searching for a safe space?

3) I know you South Louisiana fans aren't buying this, because most of you act like there aren't any LSU fans in Shreveport, anyway.

I was at that game and their fans were pieces of shite. On the way out of the stadium, I saw a woman Sooner fan grab a passing LSU fan and start screaming that the guy was attacking her. Some idiot knights jumped in until me and some others told them what really happened.

I couldn't even shoot the shite with them in the piss line. They were dicks.

Cool fact though: I did meet then LSU recruit Chevis Jackson, when he was on his recruiting visit. He was wearing an Alabama HS All Star FB game t-shirt. Said he chose LSU that night.

Wny is that so hard to believe?

At an LSU-UF game in Florida probably 10-15 years ago, I witnessed a 70 ish year old LSU fan, when a group of black dudes walking by him paying him no mind at all and doing nothing but literally walking to the stadium, drop the N bomb on them as they walked by.

There are shitty people everywhere you go.

This is a hit piece. Berry Trammel spent nearly 3 years trashing New Orleans when the arm pit of America ( OKC) was trying to poach the Hornets after Katrina. It was a steady flow of this crap every other week back then. If you could find those articles you wouldn’t believe how low he stooped but it would explain this article. Dude was pissed when they returned to NO, you could feel him crying like a baby. Trust me he has a vendetta against our state. BTW he’s a third rate journalist, stuck in that hell hole of a city.

Honestly I can believe LSU fans would be pretty wild after that game

That was our first time winning it in most of our lifetimes that many probably never thought would happen

A bunch of those things, like people peeing off balconies and pouring beer off balconies, happens every week on bourbon and probably wasn’t football related at all. Just drunk people doing drunk things. Overall, I think it’s kinda funny though that we strike such fear in a bunch of old people from Oklahoma

No doubt, the OU fan base was the most tight-assed, humorless fan base we’ve seen.

Absolutely. I came here to say this. I tried mixing it up a little bit with some of them in the quarter before the game. They looked at me like they were horrified I was trying to talk with them. I laughed my arse off.

Ohio State fans were pretty cool. Looked like they came to party.

To borrow (loosely) from Tom Skerritt...”Berry Tramel is a moron. I’m not sure he has opposable thumbs.”

Tramel has something against all things OU. He’s kind of like those political radio hosts in that he says crap he doesn’t believe just to get someone to read his column.

Yeah, a lot of OU fans are tight-asses, but they can’t drive to the nearest bar without passing 73 churches, so their tight-assery comes natural.

As far as “tiger bait” is concerned, I doubt either fan base will win awards for their snappy repartee...

I saved an article in the Oklahoman that Tramel wrote a day or three after the 2003 BCSNCG. It's somewhere at my work and I'll see if I can find it and quote it verbatim, and if so I will bump this later...

But basically by that time he had emailed/received emails from, and/or talked to many fans and boosters that were at the game.

They all complained about "Tiger Bait!" but emphatically said that just yelled "boomer sooner" as loud as they could, nonstop, to drown it out. And all these horror stories didn't come out here in Oklahoma until several years after the game. So in other words, painful memories of loss substituted reality with their own version of reality over time.

The worst thing written up, was that OU fans were repetitiously warned by LSU fans not to scurry about in the French Quarter after the game. They took that as a threat, when in fact, LSU fans were trying to warn the dipshits that motherfrickers will rob you if you turn the wrong corner down there when you suddenly show up in droves of numbers in a drunken stupor at nearly midnight. Bad situation and everyone with a brain knows it.

Their hatred for LSU has known no end since the conclusion of that game. I hear it year round as I proudly sport my LSU swag everywhere I go in this state.

Keep in mind that this is the same fan base that consistently assaults visiting fans in Norman, make OKC police work overtime after a loss, and have their own fans try to cut off the testicles of an opposing team's fan.

I'm pretty confident that OU fans that were treated badly started it. One thing you don't do, come in to LSU territory and get disrespectful. The usual banter is one thing, but get too carried away and it will get nasty. LSU fans are well known for welcoming other fans into the tailgates, ask the fine folks in Omaha.

I was at that game and noticed zero incidents.

Remember - these folks are in New Orleans for days. It’s a different reality that we have no control over.
