The rb gets the ball quicker and has more time to find a hole

If its so great for vision, why even use the QB? Is he just necessary to keep the Safeties honest? Just put the RB in Wildcat(gains a split second in vision), and instaed of a QB and a fullback, just put 2 fullbacks(Stampley and Copeland) back there to block for the RB.

Putting Stampley, Copeland, and no QB in the game allows the defense to adjust personnel. Running this in hurry-up out of one of our base packages allows LSU to 'choose' the defense.

In the offseason, Miles read that the key to winning games was to keep the ball out of the QB's hands as much as possible. Thus, the inside toss was born.

These plays are designed for a reason. Take a closer look and see the fundamental reasoning behind most plays. If they don't work, then it's ignorant to keep using them. But you simply not understanding it doesn't make it ignorant.

It doesn't give LSU any advantage besides risking the running back doesn't handle the toss cleanly.

Can someone give me a good reason why a the toss up the middle is better than the traditional handoff?

What type of benefits does it offer?

4 Main reason for the middle toss.
(1) Gives blocking time to develop
(2) Allows defensive players to over pursue or "pick their poison". The runner has time to see a crash left or right or any LB blitz.
(3) Goes along with #2 but gives the runner enough room to cut back or bounce to the outside.
(4) More opportunity for a counter or "wrinkle" off the toss. Ex: Alabama last year the toss to the TE around on 4th down.

Do you have a problem with the results of this play? The Denver Broncos went to and won two superbowls with Terrell Davis and this play.

One thing to Bitch about....The toss up the middle

Lord knows I could be wrong but i just think CLM is keeping that play vanilla and will build on it some way in tougher games.

If this is such a no-brainer why don't any NFL teams do it?

After rewatching the game, I noticed the toss almost always got more yardage then a hand off.

you should basically equate this as lining up in the pistol and running a dive play. just instead of pitching the ball, the qb is getting a shotgun snap. all it does is get the ball to the back as fast as possible to let him do his thing while already going downhill.

RB gets the ball quicker and has longer to make the decision on which hole to hit and they can hit it harder.

And that is the new offense...

You do understand that not every running play is there to set up play action, right? Some of them are actually designed to pick up yardage. I know, I know. Gimmicky offenses and their positive yardage.

allows the extra .5 second for the blocking to develop. I would suggest this play is done based on the scheme the d-line is using against our O-line, where the O-line has to revert to a zone blocking scheme, so the hole is not set in stone. Iowa does this a lot, or used to, but preferred the sweep or off tackle run to one side over the pitch back

Can you really point to one instance when they ran it three times in a row? If so, how many yards were gained?

Gets the RB the ball quicker and think of other spin off plays you can build off of this. For example, a fake quick toss and hitting Peterson in the seam for a TD. Of course we wouldn't show that against NSU but I'm sure it's in our bag of tricks for an important SEC game.

They ran the tive two times back to back vs. Oregon for sure late in the 2nd half for about 6 yards total (estimate)

And they continue to run it. This is just unconventional and the thread was just started to ask the pro & cons of running a toss up the middle.
