This can be said for any run play, just sayin.

Playaction is the word your looking for.

the O-line has to revert to a zone blocking scheme, so the hole is not set in stone.

This. And it allows the back to choose a "cutback" lane or bounce it outside.

Again, this play was money for the Denver Broncos with Terrell Davis.

I'm sure John Elway didn't have anything to do with the broncos success it had to be the toss up the middle to Terrell Davis

Once again, i've satisfied with the results. I was just saying that the toss or handoff would produce similar if not the same results.

They ran the tive two times back to back vs. Oregon for sure late in the 2nd half for about 6 yards total (estimate)

So, basically, it was run back-to-back one time? That post implied that it is a habit to just keep running that play over and over. So, the worst that happened was running it twice and setting us up for a manageable 3rd-and-4.

I know it's play action, but it is faster. Catches the DEF off guard. Lee doesn't have to run back and meet the RB for the fake. It's just fake toss, popup, and throw.

Considering all of those rings Elway had before Shanahan brought the zone attack to Denver....

So, you're satisfied with the results of the play, but continue to bitch about (your words) the play that produces the results.

I dont understand how our fan base can consistently be this stupid. It gets the ball in his hand quickly.... which gives him a chance to pick a running lane that doesnt have a LB waiting on him. We are running the ball down teams throats!!...what are you bitching about. ITS A GREAT PLAY!. Have you seen some of the cut backs out RB have made in the back field????.... Its because they got the ball quickly and were able to look up and see the defenders.

why has nobody else in the history of football before or after us used this???????????????????????????

Bitching was kind of toungue in cheeks breaux.

So your saying Denver could of won 3 rings with the toss up the middle and not the play of maybe the greatest QB of all time John Elway?

Tell me thats what you mean?

Cause WTF has shannahan done since elway has left?

I didn't read the whole thread, but last year it was basically the only play we could execute consistently. It has been effective again so far this year.

My only complaint is it seems to be the only play we run when we try to go up tempo (last year and this year), but hopefully they're just setting something up. And by up tempo I don't mean in 2 minute, no huddle situations.

I'm not saying that at all, but to imply that the zone rushing scheme that Shanahan brought to Denver didn't help Elway win those two rings is idiotic at best.

The reason why we probably run it at a quicker tempo is that it doesn't give the DL time to set up stunts and such. You lock them into their positions and beat them where they stand.

The toss "works if you work it"...
Gets the ball to the RB quicker and allows him to more time to get a read on the seam. Perfect for 3rd and short and the hurry up.

I believe Ridley was a perfect back for this play in that he had speed, quickness, and brought the house when he found the lane

ETA: It won't work with just any back

Mike Shannahan is a good coach and does wonders with runningbacks, and he did turn terrell davis into a hall of famer.

The success of his coaching career belongs much to John Elway. He should have named his son Kyle, John Elway Shannahan.

I would love if this play worked all year, we shall see.

The only problem I have with this play is that there's no doubt the RB is getting the ball. The minute a defender sees the QB pitch, they all run towards the line. At least with the handoff, there is play action to be concerned about on defense. With this pitch play, there is no guessing by the defense who is getting the ball after its snapped.
