Too damn close. Would have been a hell of a review in today's game.

Well, if that's the case then I also have a problem. They say the first part of recovery is admitting you have a problem. Unfortunately, I think I am going to carry this one for life.

I had only recently heard the story ab how Bill stole the Alex Box PA job from Richard Condon. Boy did we get lucky not having to listen to that loudmouth the past 30 years.

BF on the other hand is the god damn man. Mr. LSU baseball

The thing I always come back to when I re-watch that game is that Bowles didn't just ground out. That was a fricking missile and a damn good play by their first baseman. If we didn't win that game, that would have been one that hurt. A few inches from being a hit.

I was 14 and I jumped up and hit my hand on my grandparent's ceiling fan when Morris hit that. A moment I'll never forget.

he called it a three run homer

Dude…wtf? I have been hearing people say this for 27 years and it’s wrong. The audio isn’t great but (to my ear) he clearly says “a two-run home run.”

The lead up to the HR before it happened is way too often excluded.

Hawthorne, while doing his professional reading of Morris' ABs so far says something to the effect, "Well, now it's going to take a base hit."

It was completely on point with the moment. And, he does it while keeping the flow of the radio broadcast, expressing his disappointment with the change of situation from being able to tie it in a number of ways to having to actually get a hit. He gets all of that in before the first pitch...

Hawthorne was great.

Wait what?

I've never heard that. I think I'd probably hate LSU baseball if Condon was doing the PA. I can't stand his voice.

I always thought it was the foreshadowing just before the pitch. After he gave Morris' game stats and everything, he says, paraphrasing, "well, it's going to take a base hit, error, pass ball, or something.........."whack", that's way back there, way back there

Damn, you beat me to it. 100% agree.

What a moment. My now wife and I were together in her apartment. We had been going out for 6 months and she was sick with bronchitis, so I was taking care of her that weekend. She spent all her energy keeping up with the game down the stretch and pretty much passed out right after screaming at the end.

I just remember running out of her apartment door at Sharlo right after and it was like BR spontaneously combusted. I didn’t know her neighbors at all, but we were all yelling and high fiving. Horns were honking up and down the street. People were running around screaming in the parking lot. Someone started blasting Pregame from their car. I’ve never seen a spontaneous reaction like that outside of a game or a sports bar.

As for Hawthorne, he could definitely be a goober (Jack Hunt!), but he was our goober. And he did nail this particular call pretty well.

Who scored the tying run from third in that game?

Funny story about Brad Wilson. My mom and I have been huge baseball fans since 1991. We didn't miss a home game. I can remember her checking me out of school during regionals. I remember everything about that game very well. So fast forward to the mid 2000s...he happened to come into where I was working. I started talking to him about the 96 CWS and how he got things started with the double and scored the tying run. He was blown away that some 20 year old chick knew who he was. He asked if I googled his name before he walked in.

Yeah Bill told his entire origin story when Chris Blair had him on the Hearing Voices podcast. It was a really good listen

I always laugh at the Jack Hunt call. What’s funny is that LSU edited that call for Jim to say, “It was Devery Henderson who caught the ball.”

It has been edited...like the Bluegrass miracle call. He definitely said 3 run homer.
