Man I hope he’s not getting treatment in Baton Rouge. If so might need to request a transfer to a more reputable hospital, like Tijuana Medical and Dispensary

I Louisiana, the only hospitals that have a transplant program are Ochsner and Tulane in New Orleans, and Willis-Knighton in Shreveport.

He’s in Houston.
Went to see him for a couple weeks earlier this summer. The mental toughness on our guy is off the charts. I couldn’t believe it.

I have a close family member who had a liver transplant. While a liver isn't a heart, of course, he was pretty well headed towards his last days if he hadn't gotten it. The call came at 9:30ish at night (just three days after he was put on the list). They had to get to Vandy in Nashville from the Huntsville area. He called and told me, and I didn't believe him. I just thought there was no way it could happen that quickly. They were already on the road, being that they had their go bags by the door.
I went and grabbed his brother who wanted to ride with me up there. We made it there an hour or so after they did. We got there, in a big rush thinking we would miss something. Then............we waited. And we waited, and waited, and waited some more. It was after 4am before they took him back and only his wife went with him. Of course, that was when the real waiting began, as he had a whole hour or more of prep before the transplant surgery would even start.
We decided to walk down to Dunkin Donuts with his daughter and get coffee. We were sitting at a table drinking coffee and eating donut holes when I realized I had been awake for over 24 hours. We went back to the waiting area and tried to nap. The procedure lasted over four hours, and it was after morning rush hour that we got word he was out of surgery and stable. We hung around a while and made sure there weren't going to be any immediate issues, and made the choice to drive the nearly two hours back home. That was a long, stressful day. I laid down on the couch and felt like I'd been through a fight.

That's where my first heart surgery happened, emergent circumstances and it it hadn't been for the fact they had a balloon pump and a qualified surgeon to stabilize my failing heart right then and there I wouldn't have survived.
