They should. It’s a dick move. Full band only gets one trip a year usually. And the band directors work this out in advance so the visiting band can come and perform. It’s a big deal for a lot of those kids.

Theres AD forcing it on them is just another reason to hate the 2003 sec west co- champs.

Agree. I'm just glad we are sending the full band to at least one away game.

We allowed West Virginia and they did their pregame show for halftime. Had our entire stadium singing Country Roads. It was great.

I care. It’s tacky and a major sign of disrespect.

They may have some other presentation or event slated for halftime that day besides their own band

I *think* the issue here is that Ole Miss is retiring someone's number at halftime or having sone other sort of ceremony and there is not enough time for that ceremony and 2 band performances.

This past week there would not have been time at our game due to the Alexander ceremony.

I see, that sounds valid

Yes. Visiting bands will sometimes perform at halftime. It looks like according to the SEC rules it's up to the home team AD as to whether or not that can occur.
quote:

In order for the visiting team marching band to perform at half-time, the visiting team must request
permission from the host institution’s Athletics Director by February 1. If the host institution’s Athletics Director does not grant permission, the visiting team marching band may not perform at half-time.
That makes no sense at all. (If it's a new SEC rule, then it's totally asinine and ridiculous)

It's normally just a given that if the visiting school brings their Full Band to an away game, they're going on the field to perform their show at half-time.

If I'm ANYBODY WITH AUTHORITY at LSU, I'm raising hell over this.

FULL BAND goes to game. FULL BAND performs at half-time.

They'll probably get this worked out, but if not, the FULL GBFTL does not need to be going to Oxford to just sit in the stadium and not play on the field at half-time.

The Florida band did not perform Saturday night.
Did Florida bring their FULL BAND?

You don't bring your entire organization on a long road trip to just sit in the seats all game.........

Florida brought maybe 50 members of a pep band. What formation were they going to match?

No problem…we just do the same to them next year!

We generally take the high road on these things. Just look at where we have to sit in some venues. Then they come to us and we open up the lower level SE for them.

For football at least, the SEC requires that a certain number of visiting fan seats be located in the lower deck of the stadium. I don't think other conferences mandate that, at least the Big XII didn't in 2019, which is why Texas was able to stick all of our fans in the upper deck, the band included. We will not be able to return the favor when they visit Tiger Stadium next.

Where LSU differs is that we have all of the lower bowl visitor seats in one concentrated location in the SE corner of the stadium, which gives them more of a presence. Most other SEC schools don't do that. They split up the visiting fans around their stadiums, which essentially takes them out of the game. We could do that too. The SEC couldn't stop us, but we'd have to move some season ticket holders to do it.

In 2019 Vandy allowed the LSU band to do their entire pregame prior to kickoff. Don't think I've ever seen that before at a road game. It was awesome.

I think We let them march anytime the visitor brings a whole band. A&M marched every time they've come since joining the SEC.

Jacksonville State brought their huge arse band and put on an amazing show in 2015.

Could Ole Miss deny LSU the right to wear its traditional white uniforms for that game?

That would be more understandable than denying a visiting teams full band the privilege of performing at halftime (which happens virtually every time the visiting band asks).
