It starts today and I’m noticing gas stations are dropping their prices! Some haven’t. I think our gas tax is 38 cents+-.
Diesel is .47. Any other states doing this?

What does that gas tax pay for that all the other 34567 taxes don’t ?

Georgia dropped ours for 90 days. It's a .30 tax.

Louisiana's gas tax is 20 cents per gallon. It wouldn't help the average driver much at all if it was suspended. What it will effect is the state's ability to put up matching funds for the federal funds we rely on for road and bridge projects.

It is a use tax. If someone is a conservative they should be in support of raising the gas tax to cover all road expenditures.

Nothing should come out of the general fund.

Of course, this is a use tax that affects them, so they are against seeing it have to be the true amount.

Or that many southern state road depts are underfunded even with normal fuel tax.

Roads and bridges are expensive AF to build. They are even more expensive to maintain.

"Pausing" taxes is only robbing peter to pay Paul. Ie, business as usual for politics.

But we’ve always been paying taxes forever that was supposed to be for our infrastructure. Yet Biden passed the largest spending bill in history that was supposedly meant to pay for infrastructure improvements that we were already paying taxes for. Also that money had to be spent in 5 years if I’m not mistaken. Where’s that money?

I'll agree, but there needs to be a way to capture income from the EV drivers as well. Or else, we've got even less of us pulling the wagon.

You pay a fee when you register an EV in most states equal to the average gas tax

It’s bc it’s often hard to see what return we are getting for our taxes

That's a good observation.
Right now it's probably all the heavy concrete trucks, garbage trucks, 18 wheelers, etc. doing 90% of the damage.

In a way, it might be more equitable for light passenger vehicles to pay less due to having electrical cars and put more on the enterprises doing the damage.

The extra cost of diesel is a real problem. The extra cost for a soccer mom to fill up her Suburban is not a concern to me. Besides, an extra 30 cents per gallon. Thats a whopping $9 for a 30 gallon fill up.

Most states tax EVs every year in lieu of gas tax.

Most people have no idea how much construction actually costs. Explains a lot of why they don't see the value.

Your hypothetical assumes those funds are spent wisely without fraud and corruption

I forgot to mention, I believe they did away with the diesel tax as well. $.47. That will make a huge difference.
