Dave Clawson - He has been successful every place he has been. Wake Forest took a while to build, but they are 6-0 this year.
Herm Edwards - He has been to the NFL playoffs 4 times. Went to two AFC Championship games. He has Arizona State at 5-1 this year but his recruiting has dropped off a cliff.
Dave Doeren - Sustained success at NC State. Seems to give Clemson a hard time every now and then. Wonder what he could do with all of LSU's resources.
Pat Fitzgerald - Sustained success at his alma mater. He is their longest tenured coach in school history. At the age of 46, he is still young. He is currently making 3.3 million. He has won the BIG 10 West twice in the past 4 years. Would he leave for the right amount of money?

None of these should be considered if Woodward is really running a best of the best coaching search

I like bronco mendenhall as a head coach. But I’m not really sure he would fit enough culturally to be successful on the recruiting end. Similar to herm Edwards.

Agree about all except Fitzgerald. Doubt he’d want to leave a cushy situation at his alma mater. But if he was willing, I’d be intrigued. But have to admit It’s a legit concern that he would be the next Bielema. But LSU ain’t Arkansas.

Not that I necessarily like these guys, just trying to think of some off the radar guys…
KLeiman, Brohm, Schiano, Herman

What would y’all think about a guy who is a current NFL DC of a 4-1 team with an upper tier defense, had back to back Super Bowl appearances as a DC of a different team (the Defense was elite), had a Super Bowl appearance as an NFL HC, spent two years as Def Coordinator at an SEC power that LSU plays every year.

i would like to hope and believe woodward isnt limiting his search to just the top few hot names and looks carefuly at all candidates as well as some unknown guys that could do well here.
remember, both saban and les miles were nobodies when they came here and both have near 500 records at best

He had a 4-8 season in 2019 and hs never won more than 9 games. How is that sustained success?

Don’t think LSU will get to this but Dan Mullen? Have yet to be mentioned. Meaning he is the favorite

Mel Tucker (pending how he finishes the season).
Knows the SEC. Is a great defensive coach. Can recruit the south.
Not saying he should be the guy, or even in the top 3, but he's a name to consider if Michigan State has a good year.

Nice resume, wouldn’t melt
I’ve always been kind of hesitant on NFL guys though…while Carroll did it successfully, college vs NFL are totally different animals. Same game obviously but takes a completely different skillset to achieve consistent success

We are talking about gutting the house and doing a complete remodel. So why do posters dream up that we would give this task to a guy who is 68 f'king yrs old? That is not a rap on Herm. That is a shot at posters who want to sling something on the wall without even thinking about wtf they are saying...

I actually like Herm Edwards but I certainly don’t want him here
And I haven’t really seen much on it recently, but didn’t they have a semi-scandal going on there recently? Not sure how that all played out, but that probably makes it impossible anyway at LSU

He’s from the Carroll coaching tree but Obviously so is O lol. But at least Quinn can lock down one side of the ball.

David Shaw seems like an out of left field hire, 93-39 at Stanford 5-3 in bowl games and has an offensive background. But don’t see him leaving Stanford

I like Clawson, and Wake isn't an easy job, but they've had a few years in his tenure where they start strong, and fall off in the second half of the season. He would be a meh hire for us.

He's pushing 70, and the NCAA is in the middle of an investigation into recruiting violations.

He's almost been fired more times than he's finished in the top 25 at NC State. Doing just enough to keep his job isn't exactly sustained success.

He's not leaving. Plus, a bigger fanbase would crucify him for some of his in-game coaching decisions. He gets a pass because he's a Northwestern legend, and the expectations aren't sky high there.
