Smell like the MB treatment

I have a feeling Swann is not coming to LSU to ride the bench. I'm sure the coaches told him that the QB position is open and the one that performs the best will be the starter. It just doesn't make sense for a player to jump into the portal to be a backup.

We said something quite similar about JD and ASU in the moment

Not worried about Nuss. He’s been training for this opportunity for 2 years and has the confidence in himself to welcome the competition. He also understands that we need a capable backup in case something happens. Can also run some RPO plays with Swann to keep defenses guessing. Need someone to push just like he pushed JD. All good.

He caught huge break with Nabors and Thomas playing on bowl game. He is going to light it up.

If Nuss can’t beat him out over the summer, he was never going to be the guy
Posted on 12/19/23 at 8:25 am to JimTiger72
This should be his motivation to go out in the bowl game and put up 350.

It is in Nuss' favor that the QB they brought in is not a dual threat guy. So the only way for the new guy to stand out over Nuss is do the same things Nuss does, but better. Having some competition will be great for both.

Found the tool bag i lost.

Nuss can’t catch a break
Again, saying that as a huge fan of his loyalty and attitude.

I dont think this kid is near as good as Nussmeier

Incorrect
JD was a much bigger deal and better get

These kids who jerk off over Nuss really need a safe space.

Thought I saw where he was a dual threat QB. If he's not then why would anyone be concerned with his signing.

I hope he embraces the competition and goes out and wins the job.

There is a reason LSU went after Swann and not some other big name QBs. Nuss has the faith of Denbrock and Sloan, but he needs a backup.

Most multi-year transfers are looking to sign someplace where they are (essentially) guaranteed to be the starter. For example, I doubt KJ Jefferson is looking for a school where he can just "compete" for the job. He was the starter at Arkansas had he stayed. He's not looking to take a lesser role. Similarly, Burrow left OSU because he wanted to start. That was his #1 priority. Daniels wasn't leaving ASU as a three year starter to go sit the bench elsewhere. The illogical posters among us will disagree, but Burrow and Daniels were given assurances by the coaching staffs BEFORE they signed with LSU that the starting job was theirs. Even if it may have been "theirs to lose".
This is a different situation. LSU seems very comfortable with the position of Nussmeier being the presumptive starter. He's someone that would have had good options to transfer to after last season if he wanted. So it's clear the staff made it a priority to confirm with him that he is "next" when recruiting him to stay at LSU. However, the staff DEFINITELY didn't want to go into next season with two guys who haven't taken a significant snap in college football one play away from being in the game. Particularly when one of those guys (Hurley) is really young age-wise. They targeted guys who had adequate experience, but who were young enough that they weren't necessarily looking to step into a starting role immediately. If not, LSU would have targeted higher caliber transfers (Ward, Gabriel, Will Howard, etc).
Swann, and the others, will get a chance to compete. But this is Nussmeier's job to lose. I'm sure the pitch to Swann was "come here and see what happens. Maybe you turn out to be best guy and now you have a fighting chance for success as the QB at LSU vs. being the QB at Vandy. If not, we'll try to redshirt you this season if Nuss doesn't get hurt and you will have two more years of eligibility remaining. At that time you can decide if you want to compete for the starting job here or transfer elsewhere." Swann probably looked at it as his opportunity to get his foot in the door at a powerhouse program which was a better opportunity than being a starter at a program with little to no history of great success (see South Carolina, among others)

Nuss will 100% accept the competition. This is a way to make him better, and provide quality depth should the starter go down.
