this needs to die.

The rant has proven time and time again they can’t analyze things. In this thread alone people are saying Nuss should run off his read. We aren’t running a read option. And Nuss has a throwing motion that isn’t typical. That laser he threw to AA would be analyzed by the rant as falling off

OC better hire Jacob Hester who was pointing out all night long that the OM was giving the middle of the field to LSU and receivers were wide open while they were throwing to the sidelines in double coverage. Almost all throws to the middle were big gains.

Tough spot. He should take what the defense gives him by scrambling but if he’s already reluctant or scared to pull it on a read he could have a higher chance of injury. We’re about to be 7 games in and I’m not sure we’ve ever seen him pull on a read when he should have. At this point in the season I don’t see him getting it right. Still could pose a threat if he escapes every once in a while like he showed he can do.

It’ll help open up the RB run game too.

Gives the defense one more thing to worry about. I think he will as he gets more experience/reps.

Which is wild because that's all he did the 1st 3 games of the season.

Nuss is gonna have to start running more if this team wants to establish a RB game. Opponents know that he isn’t a running threat so they just stack the box which is why our RBs are only averaging 2-3 yards a carry

Nobody is asking him to get hit. If space is there, run and pick up easy yards, then slide. It will create separation for the receivers since the coverage will have to account for the possibility of Nuss running.

Nuss either needs to tuck it and run or they need to stop calling the RPOs altogether.

wait what?

we can call RPO's all day without needing a QB to run.

NUSS is never an option to RUN on a RPO like JD was.

JD basically ran RPR options many times. handoff, pass or keep himself and run.

we use basic RPO's. there is no 3rd option

it is read the box or outside defender(depends if it is a vertical RPO or horizontal like denbrock ran), hand off to inside zone or pull and pass.

we do not even run proper zone reads with him WTF makes you think he is a 3rd option on a RPO like JD was at times?

He had multiple opportunities to run that ended with incomplete passes. He needs to do better.

I had Zone Read / RPO mixed up on initial post.

Either way, Nuss needs to be running some of the time to keep defenses honest when the plays are developing.

i agree completely!

the read to run is there all day on these inside zones/dive plays.

he also needs to scramble more.

That’s the only thing missing in Nuss’s game

For the 1,000th time, not all of the mesh plays you see are zone reads. Most of them are RPOs this season. I will grant you that Nuss could pull and throw on more of them, but he isn’t going to be running on those.

Watch for whether we are running routes on the play or not. If we are, it’s almost certainly an RPO.

I do agree that Nuss should pull on some of the few zone reads plays that we do run. That, or sneak Johnson out there and let him run a couple as a surprise wrinkle for the defense. That would likely be better than having Nuss do it.

You can’t play scared to get hurt. That’s BS. If the run is there 3-5 times a game you take it. It’s called playing football.

The issue with the zone read is how exposed it leaves the QB if they make the wrong read. That was bread and butter for Daniels, but he still read several wrong in 22 and got lit up a few times. He had 2 or 3 turnovers because of it.

A better option to run Nuss is to roll him out in a 5-wide set, especially if the defense is in man. Run one guy off to the other side, spread the field and let him take off on the roll if the DE can’t set the edge. That’s an option that gives him a clear lane to pick up some yards and get down without taking hits.

The RPOs/Zone Reads are hindering both the run game and the pass game, if Nuss is never going to tuck and run.

You guys need to learn your football terms. RPO has nothing to do with the QB running 95% of the time. That’s either a RB give or a pull and throw to one, maybe two key pass reads.

The RPO is actually PERFECT for Nuss. He’s thrown two or three red zone TDs out off RPOs already this season. He just needs to pull and throw it more often between the 20s to open up more space for the run.

No, that’s a bootleg. Most RPOs are mesh plays with an RB, so it can look a little like a zone read at the outset.
