The big problem for LSU’s offense wasn’t so much the red zone offense, which I’m inclined to believe is a one time thing, but how poorly LSU played in the fourth quarter. LSU scored back to back touchdowns, and with 13:29 left in the game, staked themselves to a 23-13 lead. And while the defense kept forcing Auburn punts, LSU’s offense, the supposed strength of the team, squandered multiple chances to put the game away. Here are LSU’s drives in the fourth quarter, excluding the kneel down at the end: 4 plays, 30 yards, 2:00 TOP, punt 3 plays, 6 yards, 0:41 TOP, punt 3 plays, 4 yards, 1:00 TOP, punt One long drive would have put the game away, even without points. A touchdown certainly would have ended the threat. And given three chances, the LSU offense gained 40 yards on 10 plays, burning a mere 3:41 of game clock. Three of the team’s six punts on the game came in the fourth quarter.

And Auburn’s vaunted defense gave up 23 and could have been much much more. LSU won the game. The point?

It's almost like Auburn has the best defense in the SEC

LSU kicks the 3 field goals, and doesn’t fumble a punt return that leads to a TD, LSU wins by 19.

It was our worst offensive game this year, and anybody that says otherwise is just flat out crazy.

We moved the ball up and down the field about as well as have all year in the 1st 3 quarters, we just had some head scratching play calling in short yardage while being tested by one of the best defensive lines in the nation.

I'm hoping Saturday was a combination of the offense's low point, the best D we will face, and a very muddy field. If we want to compete with Bama we need the offensive execution that showed up when they played Florida.

I'm a little worried with how we were unable to put away a game in which we outgained them by almost 250 yards, but I'm just gonna stay positive for the next 2 weeks.

The coaches shut it down and went conservative as hell once the clock went under 10 minutes. Disappointing to see them lack the killer instinct they had in the Texas game.

We were that bobbled onside kick away from a tie game at best. The game isnt over when you've got nearly a quarter to play.

we both looked like shite, but we won looking like shite.
I would rather win lls than lose lls.

We would normally generate 35 to 45 off 500+ yards of offense. 2 or 3 wasted scoring opportunities.

We gifted 10 to 14 points to them with all the screw ups.

LSU did not execute. The play calling was still very aggressive in the 4th

Playing the 'if' game won't help us win any games in the future.

Texas was a different game. We weren’t stopping their offense and had to score to win and Texas’ defense had no chance of stopping us. Saturday Auburn could stop us and the Auburn offense wasn’t doing anything.

We were dominated by their punter in the 4th quarter.

We played to preserve the lead instead of extend the lead, because our field position was so poor, and it almost cost us the game.

I really hope there isn't an ounce of conservatism in the gameplan for Bama.

I believe it’s all a ploy testing out two things.
It’s possible we want a couple coaches thinking we will sit on a lead and not worry about advancing offensively.
AND, it’s possible we wanted to challenge the defense to make stops late in games when it mattered, when you’ve been on the field.

It’s also possible I’m reaching...

This guys. We knew Nix couldn't beat us when we got up 10. Didn't want to give them an opportunity for a pick 6 or scoop and score.

I really think the wet field caused the coaches to play conservative. I think we were worried about injuries and turnovers.

I also think we were trying to limit film of our real offense so Bama has less to study.

The coaches realized quickly that Auburn was going to be unable to move the ball on us.

Coach O went into the Les Miles Zone. Get ahead and hope the defense wins it. That hasn't worked in a while.

Yea, that fourth quarter offense was vintage Emzinger. Same as last week but without Brennan to excuse the inefficiency.

We can't have this at Bama. Every offensive possession needs to produce.
