We're all concerned that you're disappointed. I really hope you're ok.

I pretty much always prefer not calling a timeout in that spot and going before the defense is set up. With some exceptions

I haven’t read any responses so forgive me if this is redundant. But, as a basketball coach a rule of thumb is when clock is about 8 sec you play it out for a number of reasons…

If you call a timeout you are likely getting Jordan Wright in a similar play anyway.

You are challenging the defense to get a stop in transition which is the hardest thing to do in basketball

You don’t let defense set up OR even change their defense from man to zone or change ball screen coverage (blitz, drop, ice, etc) or off ball coverage (switch everything).

Wright made a move then bolting to the rim, Kentucky reacting and like cal said Kentucky didn’t go get the ball. Also liked the movement right off the bat then passing around and throwing one up.

No, I think basketball coaches call too many timeouts. And I've always been of the opinion that CMM gave post game, you call a timeout you get your opponent the opportunity to situationally sub and match up. They practice these in games situations just like this all the time.

Now I do have an issue with him having Baker on the floor for defense on Kentucky's last shot, but given their guy just went one-on-one and hit a tough shot over Ward that didn't really matter but it could have.

But glorious win, enjoyed the celebration with my 9000 friends in the PMAC.

Ouch.

It's not at all uncommon, I've seen many a good coach eschew end game time outs for that very reason. They all practice end game situations like this. I have no issue with it. They ran a play out of the timeout for Wright just earlier and he turned the ball over.

like how the coach gets no credit for having the team in a position to win on the last possession.

People like the OP are trolls. They do this shite anytime LSU wins. Same group saying if not for this or that we would not win in any sport but fail to see you can apply that logic to the opposition as well

It's called strategy.

Look it up.

Little bitches are out in force today because they can’t handle McMahon winning and making them look like fools. Sad!

The time out also allows UK to set a defense up against whatever they think is coming. It works both ways.

If you have a ball handler you trust I like not calling a TO at the end of a game. Doing so allows the defense to get organized and often times they do something different than what your play is designed to attack.

TO or not, Wright driving to the basket was going to be the play. Kentucky knew it. Everyone knew it. That’s why they were ready for a block. Next time though you might see Wright give it up on the drive.

It worked. He made the right call. If he had called a timeout and it didn’t work you’d be skewering him for calling the timeout. Just enjoy the win.

All season long, our offensive strategy has been to put the ball in Wright and Baker's hands. Sometimes it works, often times it doesn't. Our last two games in the final moments, our play was to let Wright dribble time off the clock while he tries to find a driving lane. If he is fouled it probably works because he is a good free throw shooter. But he can also get stripped as he drives to weave through their whole team or the shot misses or gets blocked.
I say he drives against their whole team because they have watched film and know that Wright is unlikely to pass off of a drive. He puts his head down and bulls his way to the basket. Not to knock the kid but you have to face the reality of the stats. Wright is shooting under 40 percent for the year. I think McMahon should have called timeout and planned a better chance for us. Yes it would have given Kentucky a chance to set up their defense also but I still think it gives us our best chance. Look at that play over and over. It truly was a miracle finish and we were oh so lucky to get that put back. Ward made a great play but it was just luck that he even got the chance to put that ball back in.
But hey, basketball is a screwy game. Great Win!

I’m pumped for the big win. But when you watch the sequence back, it was some great hustle by LSU and some luck.

Does it concern anybody that our coach wouldn’t want to setup a play for a better shot than what was attempted and blocked?

Wake up. Pay attention. MM addressed this im immediately after the game

He said he trusts Jordan Wright with a ball. He followed that by saying he didn't want to give Kentucky a chance to get their defense set. This is a football. You don't need to huddle between every play. Running a play does not guarantee you're going to get a shot.

Maybe you need a timeout from the rant a little while.
