re: No State Taxes on NIL

I agree with Waco Tiger regarding the substance, but the "optics" pushback is fascinating as well as surprising. States frequently compete by using tax incentives. I'm a little surprised the fairly low tax rate has a material impact on fairly unsophisticated taxpayers, but if states are competing, they must think it does.
Waco's "I know more tax than 99% on this Board" is likely understated. I appreciate his humility in not claiming to exceed 100%.

It’s bullshite for sure but we can’t have other states like Georgia and Alabama with this advantage over us.
It’s amazing how quickly things get passed if it’s involving LSU football then other things which are seemingly very important just get kicked down the road over and over.

The more shite that comes from this NIL the more I hate it. It is completely ruining College Sports, especially College Football.
I will never forget when the bill was passed and the first tweet I saw was from Cardell Thomas saying he was open to NIL deals...smh. It has only gotten worse.

It says your location is Texas, why don’t you chip in if you feel so strongly? Who gives a frick what those states do, there are a zillion things more important than further pampering 18yr olds.
Infrastructure sucks dick, but hey we won 10 games. Some of y’all are true idiots with dumb priorities.

but the pampered college kid making 6 or 7 figures from NIL
Not to mention has a campus apartment paid for, a state of the art facility for working out and eating for free, free tutoring, clothes, etc. These people get enough for free, and that's the things available for every sport from football to beach volleyball.

The Franchise Tax board (California) is likely to interpret in their favor. They already have offices in states outside of California
I could see where teams may want to shy away from bowls in states that try to tax nil or revenue sharing

Not in taxes you don’t

This is turning into some kind of gross hero worship for kids no one knows who have done nothing. Seeing that old UGA now Miami Qb have 2 luxury cars stolen.
That's exactly what it is and it's absurd. It's become some sort of scam tbh. Athletes already get every preferential treatment known to man and other incentives while at LSU and now can make six and seven figure incomes state tax exempt. WTF are we even doing.

This. We’d have to define “athlete” and “NIL”, and enable some to take advantage of this and cut others out
We should tax it like gambling winnings, since most who get NIL have won the genetic lottery

You want to be fair? Completely eliminate state tax for military veterans and senior citizens. The we'll discuss your resume.

F that. No special circumstances or privileges. I work, and pay more than my fair share of taxes so others do not have to (because of the flawed system already).
If these states trying this crap are ever challenged in court, these laws will be struck down for the exact sentiment you express. This is putting RESIDENTS of LA WORKING in LA in a different category than any other LA workers and taxpayers.

I work and pay my taxes also. I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND your opposition to this.
HOWEVER, the schools we compete against are having their states pass these laws, and if we want to stay competitive, we're gonna have to do it. No matter how much it sucks in theory.

LSU would not be able to compete with other SEC schools in any sport without this. Mississippi will follow next

Mississippi is 5%, what is Louisiana? Can’t see that being a big deal…my son’s agent is going to take more than that.

How is it legally possible to exempt a certain group of people from paying taxes and quite possibly raising ours to cover it? Needs to be a lawsuit filed with a quickness if this is allowed. Paying millions to kids is already a crime.

I’m not sure of each states income tax rates and brackets. Florida and Tennessee have no income tax. Georgia and Alabama nixed all income tax on NIL to follow suit. Louisiana will be next. LSU is recruiting against all those schools.

The hell we are. These “student athletes” can pay state income taxes just like their classmates who work and like the fans. Or, better yet, our Republican super majority can just end the state income tax for everyone and then this nonsense becomes a moot point.
