I mean if everything falls the way it's expected to ,we get one of the auto sec bids. That's just how it's set up. They take the top two teams that aren't in the car tournament and they only have 3 teams not making the ncaa tournament and we have a better record than one team and beat them head to head

They're evaluated by a metric they invented recently called knit, read the whole thread.

Based on the information we have from the NIT updated for 2025, they use the following to determine their "KNIT" rankings.
This does not specify if any of the individual rankings are weighted in any format. If not, below is how the average rankings shake out for the SEC. From this, LSU is ahead of SC in this criteria. All data is updated as of this morning.
Most NCAA projections show a minimum of 12 teams making the tournament from the SEC. Texas is square on right on the bubble so a win today vs Tenn would be huge. Lunardi does have them as one of the "Last Four In", giving the SEC 13 teams.
Team Avg BPI KPI NET KenPom SOR Torvik WAB
1 Auburn 1.86 3 1 2 2 1 3 1
2 Florida 3.86 4 3 4 4 4 4 4
3 Alabama 4.43 5 2 6 6 2 5 5

Exempt teams will include the top two teams not selected to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship from both the Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeastern Conference. In addition, the top team not selected to the NCAA championship from the top 12 conferences (based on the Ken Pomeroy Rating) will receive an exempt bid to the NIT. The top teams from each conference will be determined based on the average of the teams’ ESPN Basketball Power Index (BPI), Kevin Pauga Index (KPI), NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET), Ken Pomeroy Rating (KenPom), Strength of Record (SOR), Torvik ranking and Wins Above Bubble (WAB) ranking. All rankings are already included in the “Team Sheets” used by the NIT Committee during the selection process.

we get an NIT bid. Do we accept it?
Nobody at LSU wants it.
The players don’t want it. The admin doesn’t want it. McMahon sure as hell doesn’t want it.

Why is Vandy so low? Aren't they a solid tournament team?

Right. In the past, when there was some sort of roster consistency, the NIT was at least a way to get more games and practice time for guys to build for next season.
That doesn't exist anymore. And no one watches is. The tournament itself really shouldn't exist anymore.
Posted on 3/14/25 at 11:29 am to Off McVoy
Wouldn’t mind going to the NIT with an interim coach.

While maybe true, that’s not the whole story.
McMahon wants to lay low. He doesn’t want another disaster. He has his job for another year if he lays low.
The players are done. They don’t want to get out there for this program again.
The admin needs the season to end. They have taken the hits and criticism. it would be like opening an old wound.
I don’t know if there are any fans that want it either.

McMahon's answers about possible NIT following Wednesday's game were extremely non-committal. Not sure if he doesn't want it or if he was instructed by the athletic department to be non-committal.

Please explain.

There is no acceptable reason for this season to continue any longer. It needed to end yesterday, which it did.
Because if you don’t accept you’re admitting state of the program is in active dumpster fire mode, which it is. If we pretend everything is fine and McMahon is our guy then you would obviously accept. By receiving an NIT bid, magnifying glass on program exists, which is good for us fans because the AD might be forced to do something but without bid, could ignore terrible state of things brought upon the program by their own decisions and wait for ire to lessen over time on its own. NIT bid possibly results in increased scrutiny of the program and accountability from Woodward and McMahon that otherwise wouldn’t exist.

Everyone who isn't blind knows it is. Accepting or declining a pointless NIT bid doesn't change that.

This is the biggest word-salad bunch of nonsensical crap I think I've ever read here. It makes zero sense

The athletic department and its propagandists claim that everything is fine with the program except the talent.
Now, anyone with a brain knows that is complete bullshite, but declining the bid is an implicit admission.
If MM had a good locker room and team buy in, accepting the bid would be a no brainer.

Posted in another thread, but LSU will decline NIT bid if it comes. Mainly due to not enough players

Even if they had enough players they should decline it. That team is trash

So the SEC strong armed to get the 2 automatic bids and now won’t use them? I’d think LSU accepts and hosts first round.
