I agree with this but he does still get on base a ton. He hasn’t hit well since the injury. Still second on the team in OB%

He got taken out for defense, before we went to extras we had a lead.
We didn't finish in regulation.
Nippolt had good at bats a walk is as good as a hit in my book

If there’s one position in the lineup where striking out is LESS problematic, it’s lead off. As long as he’s getting on base, it doesn’t matter much how he’s getting out, especially when he’s less likely to have runners on base in front of him. He’s second the team in OBP (excluding Travinski with limited plate appearances). That’s exactly what you want from your lead off hitter.

Nippolt came in as a defensive replacement when we were up 5-3 in the 9th.

Are you sure of that? The live stats page on lsusports.net says he came in as PH

Nippolt is a better fielder.

I just went back and rewatch the 10th. Was definitely Nippolt. The announcers didn't catch it and the box scores/play by play on lsusports.net don't show it either. They only mention Morgan to 1B and Pearson to LF.

And it was the right time to make that substitution after Crews hit the HR in the 9th inning.

I get the fact it’s not that hard to argue that you’re right in this particular case because it worked out but it’s starting to be a habit.

A habit of having the lead going into 9th and putting a better defender in?
I hope we keep up the habit all year.

I think the boxscore is wrong. Pretty sure Nippolt was in on defense in the 10th when we turned the double play.

In all seriousness are we more concerned about a defensive replacement over the obvious need of our bats into the 9th and beyond?

Baseball is a much more psychological game than you realize - especially with 18, 19 20 year old kids. Keeping defensive liabilities in a game where you have a lead late in the game because of "the obvious need of our bats into the 9th and beyond" sends a bad message to your team. The thought process is to protect the lead, not jeopardize it by planning for failure.

The UGA announcers on SEC+ didn’t pick up on it in the bottom of the 9th when he replaced Dugas defensively.

Those guys were terrible.

Dugas was wearing a sling in between innings (shoulder injury re-aggravated recently) and it was a lefty- righty matchup with Nippolt. Normally, you’ll never make that change but conditions and situations change so, trust CJJ has a better feel for his personnel and the situations than we do.

In Jay I trust!

He was for sure. He entered after Dugas at bat in the 9th. He played defense btm 9 after Crews homer.

The scorer at UGA made several mistakes last night... including originally charging Thompson's dropped pop-up as an E4 instead of an E6

So yeah... a scorer unfamiliar with LSU's typical substitution pattern could miss Nippolt coming in as a defensive sub in the 9th... it's quite easy to do

Yep unfortunately 2B cant do much ab moon shots into the trees. Worked out as BN made some plays later in the game, worked a great walk and had a solid single IIRC

Take your right arm...Stretch it across your body towards your left arm...now go straight overhead...now extend it towards the right...now rotate it behind you.

If you are under the age of 80, you should have no problem doing those things...however, Dugas cannot because his throwing shoulder is still fricked from the injury.

No he didn't, he pinch hit for Dugas in the top of the 11th.

No he didn't, he came in as a pinch hitter in the top of the 11th to bunt and push Kling over to 2nd.

Don't look at box scores or listen to the announcers. Go back and watch the game on demand on espn app and then see for yourself that you are wrong.

He turned the double play in the 10th after Tate got the lead off single. After the last out you can clearly see it is him running off the field when the camera is on Hurd walking off. The at bat wasn't his first time on the field.
