Gun to my head, if someone said “there’s a guy on 2nd in a tie game in extras, who do you want at the plate?” I would say Dugas. Clutch, veteran player and it wasn’t a bunt situation.

I do not understand.

Nippolt came in as a defensive replacement when we were up 5-3 in the 9th.

Like OP I was also scratching my head when Nippolt came up to bat

I was sort of thinking the same thing but another poster suggested that Johnson put in Nippolt for defense(not to pinch hit), and to be fair, Dugas has had some trouble fielding balls, so in hindsight, I think Johnson made the correct choice.

It’s not without its risks, I mean he did the same thing in the Moo State game and it backfired.

But nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Thank the lord he did. He made two plays at second I am not sure Dugas makes.

In all seriousness are we more concerned about a defensive replacement over the obvious need of our bats into the 9th and beyond?

Still not my thing.
I like Dugas in my lineup.
There is a reason he is leadoff.

We had a lead. We were playing not to blow it. It’s not a hard concept to grasp.

When we're up 5-3 in the 9th on the road?

Yeah.

It worked out in the 10th too. Dugas doesn't turn that double play.

Yeah and the dummy announcers didn’t even think twice about it when they said he was pinch hitting for Dugas. He wasn’t pinch hitting. Defensive sub the prior half inning.

I get the fact it’s not that hard to argue that you’re right in this particular case because it worked out but it’s starting to be a habit.

When Nippolt was put in, it was the correct move.

Marshal has had trouble throwing to lefties. And, on cue, he walked Nippolt.

He also went 1-1 with a walk and made some nice plays at second.

Dugas has been very inconsistent post injury.

The UGA announcers on SEC+ didn’t pick up on it in the bottom of the 9th when he replaced Dugas defensively.

A habit of making the right call? I hope so.

LSU was up 5-3 when he came in. The idea is you play defense and you win the game and you don’t bat anymore.

Dugas has not been very good either. Was 0-4 last night. I really don't understand having him lead off, but I guess there aren't that many good options aside from him. Strikes out too often for a lead off guy. The role is supposed to be able to put the ball in play very consistently.
