Even some on the Rant have to be excited about what LSU returns in next season's pitching.

Yes, we lose two great relievers in Hess and T Peterson (assuming he goes, as he probably should), but there's a lot returning.

This is how I see the pitching set up:
1. C Henry
2. L Marceaux
3. J Hill
4. E Walker
5. M Hilliard
6. D Fontenot
7. T Veitmeier
8. M Beck
9. A George
10. C Costello
11. W Ripoll
12. R Threadgill
13. R Gunter

Then you have the unknowns in AJ Labas and N Storz (who I still believe really does exist).

I don't think all 15 of the above come back though as LSU signed 6 new pitchers that will be arriving. The headliners are C Phillips and JUCO left-hander B Kaminer.

Yes, losing Hess and Peterson hurts, but there is so much coming back you have to be excited. Have to be, right?

EDIT: Whoops! I forgot that lefty! E McMurray. Sure could use him next year along with the JUCO guy and the high school kid.

I know we said the same thing last year, but our pitching next year should be really really good.

Assuming most remain healthy, you have a rotation of

Friday- Henry
Saturday- Marceaux
Sunday- Hill

Long relief- Hilliard, Walker, Beck
Closer- Fontenot or Connor Phillips

It will be nice to not have to rely on a freshman to come in and step up.

For the first time under Mainieri we did not have a single pitcher throw 80 innings this season. We didn't have anyone go more than 72. This is a hug change from years when our top three were 2 guys in the 100s and 1 in the 90s.

It means that a lot of guys got a lot of opportunities and hopefully all come back better from the experience.

I'd still like to see some guys go get summer innings since no one was really overworked. I mean pretty much number 9 and down on your list.

I know we won't carry 21 pitchers next season, but every I can see a reason to keep every guy on the list.

I hate to always look to next year, but it seems a little easier to do when you return so much instead of it all being on hoping new guys come in and are ready to perform.

Walker is a starter. I hope Henry gets healthy and Hill. I wouldn’t mind using Hill in a less demanding role to allow him to heal. He has the stuff to be a great closer. Fontenot probably cannot stretch 90+ very often, but he would be a nice starter, if we didn’t need him in the bullpen.

We will have a lot of options with 6 guys who have started games for us and several others who have postseason innings.

in most season's i'd be jumping through the roof with anticipation of a list of arms like that. After this season, however, you'll have to forgive me for taking a wait and see attitude.

If Hill and Henry are fully healthy and assuming Todd and Hess leave:
Friday: Henry
Saturday: Hill
Sunday: Marceaux
Weekday: Walker/Hilliard

Relief: Hillard/Walker, Beck, Veitmeier, Freshmen pitchers

Closer: Fontenot

15 RHP

until LSU signs some quality LHP's, results will likely be the same.
Totally INEXCUSABLE on the coaching staff

Seriously we need some LHP but if we’ve learned anything several of these will not be around due to arm soreness

After the last two seasons I will never be excited about a pitching staff until April or even later ever again.

With LSU's staff's history of arm issue, you really believe the OP. Walker & Hillard were hurt last year & didn't come back as before. Gilbert, LaBas & Stroz never came back.
WHAT GIVES YOU THE IDEA THAT THIS STAFF CAN GET 11, 18 & 44 TO BE THE WEEKEND ROTATION??????
Don't get me wrong, I hope to the high heaven that they all come back, but I know our recent history.

2294: You need a brief history of LSU arm problems?
Storz, Labas, Hill, Walker, Marceaux, Henry, Costello, Hillard, Gilbert......
That is this year

One year does not constitute a history.

Storz and Labas came to LSU injured. Gilbert pitched injured last year without informing the staff, his status is as much on him as it is on anyone else. Marceaux, Hilliard, Costello, and Henry were hurt, not injured considering they all finished the season pitching.

Hill has a strained UCL.

So now give me some more "history".

After the past 2 seasons, I can't get excited about the potential of any future pitchers. If Henry, Marceaux, and Hill are starting the opening weekend at complete health, and Fontenot is the closer at complete health, then I'll be excited about the pitching for the opening weekend. If they are all still healthy heading into the second weekend, then I'll be excited about the pitching for the second weekend. I've learned my lesson on assuming anything is a given regarding pitchers at LSU (or in baseball in general) at this point.
