I’m of the opinion that the PMAC could/should be remodeled. Not sure it’s as bad as everyone wants to suggest. It is in the perfect location and is an iconic and historic structure on campus. Personally I think it’ll be a very sad day when/if it gets demolished.

I listened to an interview with an LSU rep. The PMAC will be kept to be used as a practice facility and for much needed additional office space. LSU won’t own the new venue and will be leasing it out for 30 years. After that, LSU will then own the building. The project developer will solely be responsible for funding the 400 million or so to build it.

So the plan is to build a new multi-purpose facility, but still keep the PMAC on campus for some other use?

What were the conversations regarding the Rivercenter about at the city council? How is that related?

Nothing like having a $300 million facility right next to Tigerland section 8 housing.

I think the property value raises enough from the proximity to the arena that those residential areas turn a corner for the better.

At least I hope.

This could also revitalize Tiger Land a bit and lead to a rowdier student section. Bar hop > walk a block to basketball games > bar hop.

Build it on the golf course and surround it with a ton of parking that can be used for football and baseball.

They'd convert the River Center into a convention center where they'd host conferences, etc. A new hotel would be attached.

Eta: here's the site map. I bet they turn the arena into another exhibition hall then tear down the parking garage and build a new hotel with a parking garage.

Kind of like how they did behind the PMAC and the Bernie Moore? LOL.

Arenas generally bring down property values, not raise them up.

It's Baton Rouge. So I don't think you can ever assume the city will fully take advantage of any potential opportunity. But I agree that it COULD present an opportunity tear down the slum that is Tigerland and redevelop it into something nice and attractive to potential LSU student and grads. Imagine not being from BR or familiar with LSU, coming to visit LSU as a prospective school, and going to the main "entertainment area" and quickly realizing its literally in a shithole neighborhood. Tigerland is already long gone. But Brightside is quickly becoming the new Gardere Ln. When the flagship university of the state is your city's biggest draw it would seem logical to do everything you can to make sure the campus and surrounding areas are as attractive as possible.

This is a COMPLETELY different animal. It's going to be the primary event arena in the city.

So conventions only, no more concerts and live events, which would be moved to this new facility?

Wonder what they would do with the PMAC? I guess it could be a dedicated gymnastics and/or volleyball facility? Or a basketball practice facility?

They really need to re think the track stadium. If the new arena were there, you could connect the PMAC as the practice and admin facility.

more cost and longer delay. You'd have to build a new track & field facility, and then demo it to begin construction on the new arena. I'd prefer that solution if it were possible. But they seem to want to move quickly b/c every year they wait, the cost is going up significantly. The new track facility would likely delay everything a few years at best. Not to mention, the cost of the new track facility on top of everything.

Doesn’t matter how soon they build it, where they build it and what amenities it has, people on the rant will bitch and moan. Never fails

Yep, that’s correct. And additional office space. Here’s Moscona’s interview with Keli Zinn if you wanna take a listen.

She starts at 2:17

Thanks, sounds like a decent plan.

I am surprised that they would need more office space, unless this would be unrelated to athletics. There are tons of unused offices in the PMAC right now.

This is going to be a mixed-use development which would improve the area.

LSU Associate AD/Chief Brand Officer Cody Worsham said that the university “envisions the arena as the anchor of a mixed-use development that could include restaurants, a hotel and other businesses.” The Tiger Athletic Foundation has “begun soliciting proposals from developers to finance and build the new venue.”
