Lane took over a bigger mess and has far more with less.

He makes $9.5m a year and said to judge him on year 3.

It’s year 3. I’m judging him. The D has been subpar to date and the team in general doesn’t yet look capable of competing for anything meaningful.

He literally said to judge him now. The output is underwhelming.

I do agree he took over a program that was a dumpster fire. I believe the biggest critiques that are valid is he should have done a better job in the portal the last two years. His failure to address the defensive line and backfield cost him a playoff and maybe even a national championship last year plus a quality team this year. So far I give him a B-. The only reason it’s not lower is because of his quality quarterback and offensive line recruiting.

As I see it, people can be salty about the defense (and ST) those first couple years. They can even complain about our defense now. However, after hiring this defensive staff, getting rid of Kelly would just be silly. If we give these coaches a couple years to recruit and build a defense and our offense continues to remain productive, we should have the team we want. If we get rid of Kelly and start over, we are back to square one and will have question marks everywhere.

Well said.

I get being salty about the defense last year. I get being salty about the defense right now. There are still deficiencies, and winning 31-28 on Saturday won’t change that. At the same time it’s pretty clear, at least to me, that we have the right staff on defense now and that the staff as a whole is recruiting at a very high level. Losing 31-28 on Saturday won’t change that, either.

A couple of good/bad bounces, or missed/made tackles, shouldn’t really change anyone’s long term outlook for the program. But that’s what these games often come down to, and people let that skew their point of view way too much IMHO.

If it’s a blowout one way or the other that’s a different story. But I don’t really expect that to be the case.

Bitching about BK not going to the playoffs in year 3 is ridiculous.

Why? Didn't he say that we should judge him in Year 3? It's Year 3. Time to put up or shut up. As far as schedules go, we've got a pretty favorable one this season, in that all of our toughest games are at home. If we lose to Ole Miss on Saturday, for all intents and purposes, this season is practically over. If we can't beat Ole Miss at home, it's highly unlikely we will get through the remainder of our schedule unscathed. That would put us at 9-3 at best, which is not trending up. When a coach is being paid what BK is getting, you expect a better return on your investment than 9-3.

Even if people hate Kelly, the optimism for LSU alone should warrant nothing but upvotes on OP.

Chicken, post the handles of all the downvotes! Let's see who chooses to shite on LSU.

Bad initial coaching hires
Continues to receive when winning the toss
Teams start slow and are down double digits in 1H way too often
Has had consistently poor special teams and has failed to properly address it

Those are my criticisms. I believe they are fair. Let’s see how he does the rest of the year.

We fired Les Miles for averaging 10 wins a season with one of the worst offenses annually in the country. They are eerily similar in a sense that they are deficient on one side of the ball and cannot win the big games.

It’s year 3 and we are underdogs to fricking Ole Miss AT HOME. That’s pathetic and unacceptable.

He’s lost three openers in a row

Would be a great point if there were 1 or 2 game seasons. Worried about point spreads. The season is just getting into SEC play so why don’t you let it play out. Or, just continue to cry it out because Kelly is here for a while. Some won’t understand until they get stuck with a coach like Napier or Jimbo for 3 or 4 years. What could happen? Ask Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee what a top program can fall to with a few bad coaching hires.

What did you guys expect when Kelly took over? He didn't inherit a loaded roster like DeBoer did at Alabama, but he took over a program that was an absolute shite show and a complete embarrassment in the college football world.

TWO years removed from a dominant national championship.

Malik, Thomas jr, nuss, maason smith…the team was short on scholarship players but not talent.

Kelly has done a really bad job at getting good DBs from the portal. His teams play soft. If those things don’t improve, you can’t expect much improvement overall. He’s got a 10 year contract, he will get enough time to prove himself, but we are in year 3 in the transfer portal era, with extended covid eligibility - people acting like he hasn’t had an opportunity to build the roster are delusional. And that argument becomes less valid as time goes on, so let’s drop the bullshite, see how these next two seasons turn out and go from there.

100% agree. You also have to give Kelly credit for keeping LSU organized in this chaotic NIL era.

he inherited a team that just beat a ranked A&M team to finish the season. he inherited a team that had 12 NFL draft picks the next 2 seasons. the numbers were down but talent existed on both sides of the ball. Kelly has done a decent job overall, but has struggled to attract talent on defense.
