I mean they’re both going to play but it is more than slightly hilarious that Johnson fricked every narrative the rant laid out for Milazzo in the first game of the season.

Would like to see him get the throw back to the mound a little quicker. Thrown a couple of lollipops back but he’s turned a couple of balls outside into strikes

There’s absolutely nothing more annoying than having a douchebag hardo catcher that tries to throw it back to you at 90 MPH while you have on a shitty pitcher’s glove. I’d rather my catcher roll the ball back to me than to throw it harder than a lollipop. You’re clueless

I wish some of the fans could just take what these players are at face value. Neal very clearly has been a dude. Milazzo has not. Sometimes it’s just that simple. He shouldn’t be anything more than a late inning replacement and spot starter.

And I appreciate Jay more & more when he does things like this. A lot of coaches would have ran it out there, chalk. But no milazzo, no Dugas, 3 freshmen. Pearson, sorry but you haven’t pulled your weight

Is this Mike Neal’s (LSU 3rd Baseman in 1993) son?

The Rant is mentally broken about Milazzo. We have some here who can’t accept what he is as a baseball player.

I agree with all this. I’m from West Monroe, so I’ve known about Pearson for a while (played a year with his dad) and was on him
early last year, predicting in the fall that he’d eventually hit his way into the lineup (whiffed on my similar prediction this year that Guidry would be the Opening Day SS—and that was more about how good I thought he was than an indictment on JT). And I think Pearson will eventually wind up hitting his way back into this lineup. But you can’t run him out there in the starting lineup now after his summer, fall, and spring. What does that say to the guys that have actually been producing?

I do think White’s injury opens up a spot for Dugas to probably play every day for a while. He barreled up that single in his only (I think) AB. Probably had the highest exit velo of any ground ball yesterday.

Theyll probably alternate him, merrifield, and nippolt between 2nd and 3rd

Agreed. I was really impressed with Nippolt yesterday. Sadly, I think Merrfiled is likely the odd man out in that trio. Not “out” out, just will probably play the least out of the 3.

Maybe “some” but not many. Almost everyone in the preseason thread was in favor of Neal if he could play defense near Millazzo’s level.

BTW Boat, I know one of your friends. LSU grad in Houston. Started his own cybersecurity company. I was telling him about something I read on the Rant, and he said, “One of my buddies posts on there all the time. Goes by ‘Boat’.”

There were definitely a ton of “with our other hitter just out the best defensive catcher back there”

Also a lot of “Neal should be in high school he’s not ready for 99 MPH” takes.

Btw Neal looks like the Hemsworth brother in Westworld

Been saying he’d be the guy by April. He’s really good. Keep in mind he should be a senior in high school this year. Fully expect some learning curve as the competition ramps up but there’s a reason the kid was viewed as one of the best catchers in the draft class this past summer. Very very polished and to be so young…. Just a very impressive prospect

No. He grew up in Florida and his father was originally from Texas. No previous LSU connections, just recruited by Paul and then Jay. We are fortunate that he didn’t take the major league offers.
