If I've read correctly, Neal has not been catching in the scrimmages. Does it appear, for now, they're thinking of him as a DH? Is he being brought back from injury slowly? Thanks.

DH only. We are deep at Catcher. He may eventually get some reps there or at 2B.

Neal caught in early November when i saw them scrimmage, and looked awesome. He threw out a runner(frey maybe) with a MLB type throw to 2B

Travinski and Milazzo are the first two at C; do you think Frey is at C before Neal?

Neal and White getting defensive breaks today. They seem to be brought on slowly. But Neal has had the best ABs so far over anyone else.

Neal is a stud behind the plate. It would make no sense for him not to catch other than him still being hurt.

You don’t think Neal catches at all this year?

I think they are bringing him along slowly. They didn’t try him at 2B for the fun of it.

Gotta be bringing him along. Jay said Millazo will be C only and Neal can play multiple spots. Neal is great behind the plate but his bat needs to catch up.

I think so too. Jay said in the press conference yesterday that he thinks Travinski will be one of the most dangerous hitters in the country this year, and that they need to keep him healthy and keep his bat in the lineup.

Based on that comment, I think he’ll mostly DH this year, with Milazzo and Neal doing most of the catching. I could be wrong though.

I can’t imagine Milazzo catches over Neal or Trav. He is at best a 300 hitter with little to no power. His defense isn’t that good compared to the other 2 plus the others are plus offensive players. My understanding was that Neal was good defensively as well.

ETA. I typed it in wrong. Meant to say Milazzo’s fielding prowess is not at a level that is so good that makes up for his serious shortcomings at the plate compared to the other 2.

Neal is catching or not playing. He’s not the DH on this team. He may get a few at bats at DH here and there just to get some AB’s but if healthy he’s the starting catcher, if he’s not healthy he doesn’t play.
