when I think college sports as a kid and as an adult what fricking dumbass thinks at any point during his life while watching college sports we need more heavy conservative leaning politically and more more capitalism. Are you drugs? You ruined college sports and now want to give us a lesson about politics and capitalism? something that has nothing to do with the college sports we grew up with.

What is the format? 12 play in games then a normal tournament?

But sports isn't a true free market endeavor.
For a sports league to remain interesting to fans, there must be some level of parity among teams. The games have to be competitive and compelling. Otherwise, fan's lose interest and the league will suffer.
That's why pro leagues have salary caps and roster limits.
So there are limits in sports that shouldn't exist in the normal business world. And that's ok.
64 is plenty of teams. It's still a big accomplishment to make the tournament. Enough is enough, and the constant need to expand should be resisted here.

It's hilarious to see this, and still see people lose their shite every time someone mentions expanding the football playoffs.
You say this as if everyone approves of the NCAAT expansion. I don't.
I pay no attention to the "First Four". For me, the tournament starts on Thursday.
Putting the annual "next four out" into the tournament won't make one lick of difference in who wins or who deserves to win.

It’s already to water down. When a team gets beat by 50 that’s a joke

Has absolutely nothing to do with the participation trophies.
It’s just the nature of capitalism…there always has to be MOAR. Money is the driver of everything, and people with money are like gods to be worshipped. MOAR ad revenue from Capital One and Coca-Cola and Draft Kings. MOAR March Madness games for the gamblers to lose money on.

No one is making the argument in the thread that the NCAA should not be allowed to expand the tournament. That would be anti-capitalism. They are, in essence, arguing it is an unwanted change from a fan perspective and could ultimately be a prove to be a poor business decision in the long run.
For example, no one argued that Coca-Cola should have been prohibited from changing its formula to try to make MOAR sales and MOAR money. Capitalist felt coke should be able to make a business decision it felt was profitable to its company. They just opined it was dumb business decision to try to change something that was both popular and financially successful
I guess now you can return to your Ethel Rosenberg society meeting

Um, you’re 100% wrong and it’s always funny to see people who don’t understand economics on a fundamental level talk about “muh capitalism” especially when it’s the opposite that’s led us to this point in college sports. Just like all these modern playoff expansions this is nothing but a sales gimmick to juice a failing product. Slap a “playoff” sticker on meaningless games to sucker more viewers since you’ve ruined the sport to the point where nobody cares about the regular season anymore. Capitalism didn’t do that, a corrupt, Clinton judge did.

MM would still manage to fail to get in

I feel you. Let me let you in on a little secret... it's ALL ABOUT MONEY.
Fresno St won the CWS as a 4 seed. I'm not sure if any other have done it.
No 11 seed has ever won the basketball title. I want to say the highest seed to win it all was an 8 seed Villanova when they beat Patrick Ewing led Georgetown.
Ohio State was an 8 seed when they won the CFP in '24 but it's OSU.

Participation trophies everywhere.

WW still won’t get past the sweet 16.

The only way I support this is if they let some of the regular season champs that don’t win their conference tournaments have those spots. You see it every year where a team wins 30 games and then has 1 bad game in conference tourney and gets left out. I’d much rather see a smaller school that will go nuts to have a chance to play vs a .500 team just because they are a “name”.

Stupid money grab. There’s already too many teams in the tournament.

Everybody in. Everybody plays. Follow the money.
