I don’t see how this works without an LOI.
There will be something akin to an employment contract when they start paying players directly, I would include buyout clauses just like the coaching contracts.

I just hope they are replaced by contracts that obligate players to play through the bowl games.

I read an article that said it’ll be a scholarship agreement or something similar. No $ value or any payment terms though. No way to do that.
No part of these rules are designed to protect the schools…this is all trying to limit how much control over athletes that schools have. Which is crazy, since a school like LSU helps these kids in their career so much. Immeasurably.

Anyone who can't see the writing on the wall here is blind. Eventually the big conferences are going to break off for football and do their own thing. The NCAA is becoming completely obsolete in real-time.

the best case scenario is football breaks away.
Big 10 baseball is going to be insane.
How are they going to handle midweek basketball games in the conference that are essentially coast to coast.
Edit: to clarify i’m talking about basketball

quote:Correct, and that’s because the free market doesn’t actually give a shite about 18-20 year olds playing sports unless they’re A) part of one of the primary professional leagues or B) part of the NCAA.
in that there are no Pre-NFL options for football players
So the athletes wanted all of the benefits and platform provided by the NCAA, but not to play by its rules.

you can’t say “free market free market” when you have school agreeing they aren’t going to pay players but they will take in tons of money.
that’s how we got here. that’s collusion.

I have a friend who went to La Tech when Bradshaw did, he told me the only way Terry could have found his classes is if someone took him by the hand and showed him where each was located. SO I guess the answer to your question was about 50 to 60 years ago
These recent changes have allowed many to see how the sausage is made in college sports. It's too shocking for those that long for the good ole days, only unfortunately the good ole days never really existed.
Imagine the pearl clutching when some people would learn that the football players spend their money (from NIL and such) on marijuana cigarettes. Ignorance is bliss

Uh… no one plays mid week conference games now. Conference games are Fri-Sun. Only in the SEC, with the SEC Network do teams play Thurs-Sat.

The players hold ALL of the power here as they should considering they ARE the product being “sold”.

it’s entertainment the players are the product.
LSU the university cannot play football.
Someone has to actually put in a helmet.

So yea, make fun on people saying they won't watch anymore -- but that's a real thing.
I agree. I still watch LSU, but college football as a whole means less to me than it ever has.

Just make the contracts legal and binding already!

Historic changes are coming to college sports. The NCAA Division I Council approved Wednesday to eliminate the National Letter of Intent program.
When the NLI is eliminated I would expect contracts to be the new binding agreement. If a contract is enforcable over a time period then the Transfer Portal activity will slow down. BK made some vague reference back in late summer that NIL would phase out when players get p as id directly.

Pay reasonable monthly wage and bonus annually for loyalty and performance. Injury clause.
