If they didn't request an Advisory evaluation before applying to enter the draft then they lose their eligibility.
From NCAA "Testing the waters" memo:

You’re saying there is a chance Shaq is returning?

What is unclear in everything I have read is the timing of the request for an evaluation. Is that something that can be done at any time during the run up to combines, etc? Or does that have to be done before or concurrently with the submission of intent to participate in the NBA draft? For us, my question would be if Naz and Tre have not yet requested evaluation, can they still do so and maintain the ability to drop out of the draft and return to school.
On a side note, this whole thing seems to be a nightmare from a compliance and enforcement perspective. I am imagining there are going to be a lot of people having to petition the NCAA for reinstatement because the new process wasn’t fully understood/explained.

this is the question, and one they won't disclose I think, bc it will tip off the teams possibly hurting their dollars probably

Not sure why Sir Fury was downvoted by 3 people, you’re absolutley right. It just shows a lot of people have no idea about the actual rules in place for this stuff are.
Agree. Multiple different answers in this one thread.
I'd like to understand the rules despite the realities of whether there is any practical chance of these guys returning.

If that was the case, neither would be enrolled right now more than likely, and both are according to insider.
That's the basis for your original statement?

Again, if they didn't and definitely cant return, why would they still be taking classes right now? That's what I dont get, if they're leaving no avenue to return, why finish up?
The only argument there is if their pro career fails, they can return to school and pick back up where they left off academically only as they "completed" their spring semester sophomore and freshman year credit classes...but that seems like a big leap, especially for Naz.

From what people have said on here, Naz is not in school anymore.
Posted on 4/15/19 at 1:24 pm to Broski
80% chance everyone but Naz returns.

He dropped out of school. So it will be much harder for him to do so from an eligibility standpoint.

That is not what was reported literally today by a paid board insider, he said both Waters and Reid are both still enrolled and taking classes.
Posted on 4/15/19 at 1:39 pm to thunderbird1100
That is incorrect. Waters is enrolled but Reid is not.

What's your source on that?

Umm... Shaq did return...Twice...

He was enrolled in 2 classes with* my cousin. And hes no longer enrolled in those 2 classes according to moodle.
So I will admit it is possible he just dropped those 2 classes but it is highly unlikely that's the case.

Per the NCAA, the deadline to request the eval was April 11th (that's why all the news about Mays, Smart and Williams broke last week). The rules (or at least the NCAA memo) appear to be pretty clear that you can't enter the draft and retain your eligibility if you don't first request the eval.
Assuming they haven't requested the eval yet and the deadline to do was 4/11, it appears they have forfeited their eligibility. Then again, IMO, the memo is ambiguous enough to present questions.

I know Wikipedia isn't a great source but:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eligibility_for_the_NBA_draft
quote:
A player who declares for the draft and stays in it loses his college eligibility when he is drafted. He can sign with any agent following an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee, and if he ends up undrafted, he has the opportunity to return to his school for at least another year only after terminating all agreements with that agent, effective with the 2019 draft; until 2018, college players lost their eligibility when they signed with their agents and stayed in the draft, only to be left undrafted. Before 2016, the NCAA only allowed a player to enter the draft once without losing eligibility, but current NCAA rules now allow players to declare for and withdraw from multiple drafts while retaining college eligibility.

If he hired an NCAA/NBA approved certified agent then fired said agent before draft then yes he could.
