Thanks GRTiger. Hard to believe that was 40 years ago. A few years ago I was at my daughter's track meet in Lafayette and Bert Jones was sitting near me. I wanted to tell him about how I got his jersey sleeve after the Notre Dame game but figured he'd think I was an idiot for losing it. I plan to contact him now to see if he'll sign it before I put it in a shadow box. I still have a few witnesses who were with me and can verify what happened.

That's awesome, man! Glad she found it!

Are you going to frame it or something? Nvm, just saw the shadow box comment.

Great story. Happy for you!

I wonder if he'll think "Holy shite, I remember walking off the field with a sleeve missing. Always wondered where it went!"

I was ten that year and I am quite sure that Bert had two jerseys ripped off of him against Ole Miss that season. That's the game that made me a fan and I remember them workin on his jersey on this sideline, maybe sewing it back together.

I grab onto his right jersey sleeve and unbelievably, it tears away and I'm now holding the greatest souvenir a 15 year old die hard, Tiger fan, Bert Jones fan, could ever dream of having -- Bert Jones' right jersey sleeve from the shoulder stripes to the arm stripes, with the purple 7 looking straight at me.

Way to go honey badger on that jersey sleeve.

I was going to say you definitely need to frame that thing! Congrats on finding it -- that's awesome.

Your display would look even cooler if you added a photo like this one inside the box. (Maybe through the athletic department?)

You ripped that off.

L.S.U. used to wear jersey's that were chemically treated to tear away so if any opposing player on defense tried to grab the jersey material, it would just rip off.
