Even a Milky Way Midnight has relatively little chocolate. My elderly Sheltie ate an entire cookie sheet of chocolate marshmallow candies cooling on a table. I KNEW it would spell her demise. She lived three more years. No evidence of problems from the chocolate at all.
re: At what age does it become inappropriate to shower with your child?
Posted by eleventy on 10/3/14 at 7:20 pm to Mizzou to my Lou
My son would hop in the shower with his dad until he was prob 4? Saved time when we were all getting ready to go somewhere. He NEVER showered with me. My daughter (4) has never showered with me or her dad. Never will. We both oversee her bath, depending on who is available. Stopped checking in on my son while he was showering alone at about 7. If he has some "man problem", my husband deals with it. I suppose. I don't ask.
Honestly? I try not to think about it!!
No hassle. Seriously, I have found the opposite to be true in many many cases. Sure, there are some with $$. We are middle of the road. There are people doing a lot with a little. Priorities differ.
I know people who do with probably not much more than that. They adjust their lifestyle. We have not had to do that so much, but likely would to keep things as they are.
You may be surprised by how many women (or men) stay home while the spouse works. My daughter goes to a private kindergarten and almost none of the moms work.

Enough, I suppose. I gave up a pretty lucrative job, but we are all pretty pleased with the outcome.
My husband works. I stay home. Not so bizarre. :dunno:
re: Talk to me about homeschooling
Posted by eleventy on 10/2/14 at 2:42 pm to drunkenpunkin
I've been homeschooling my son for four years. We have a somewhat eclectic curriculum because he has learning problems, and was all over the place with regard to grade level when we pulled him out of school. It works well for us, and he is pretty much on grade level with everything now. I pick and choose material for each subject.
There are very structured curricula that provide books, workbooks, etc. for all subjects. Google homeschool curricula and browse. If I homeschool my youngest, I will use one of them.
I have a lot of friends who do K12 and Connections. Some kids love it, some find it too restrictive. It is good if you are looking for structure, and want teachers involved in the process. It is as close as you can come to being in school without being in school, from a homeschool perspective.
I know this is not your particular issue, but dont pay any mind to those talking about social issues, etc. You can be as involved or isolated as you want. There are myriad organizations (crunchy and not, religious and not) which provide field trips, sports, dances, parties, co-ops, etc. When we first began, I had trouble finding time to DO work because there were so many activities available and I felt obligated to have him with other kids. I realized that at school he had one 15 minute recess and a 25 minute silent lunch, and no real variation as to his peers. Anything we do socially is more than that. He was not super social at school because he hated school so much. Between church, Boy Scouts and homeschool outings, he is out and about plenty.
Things have changed hugely with regard to homeschooling, especially with all the crap going on in all schools these days, both with regard to curriculum and general environment. There are many options for "regular" people -- which we are -- would NEVER have thought I would be homeschooling, but LOVE it.

re: Your opinion of Goodwood Grill?

Havent been since I worked in that area about a year ago, but prior to that, went fairly regularly for about five years. It is slammed at lunch. Either be there before 11:30 or go after 1. The crowding is partially due to logistics as mentioned previously, and also because it is a varied menu and pretty good.
The hamburger is solid. I often got the grilled shrimp poboy and was always pleased. Never had their Greek good. Had several of their lunch specials -- fried fish, lasagna, and smothered chops -- all were good. The grilled half and half (half shrimp/half grilled veg) was unfulfilling, but sufficed when I was in serious diet mode.
It's worth a stop if it is anything like it was a year ago.

I have a mix that (as best the vet can guess) is either GS or Belgian Malinois and Catahoula. She got larger than expected faster than expected, and became difficult on walks. Took her to obedience with Larry Benoit in BR. He suggests a pinch collar and his training methods worked well with practice at home. He will also come to your house and work with the dog.
It's an AG supermarket like LeBlanc's, Matherne's, Bet-R and the like. The deli has good breakfast and lunch. The one on Drusilla had become a bit grimy. I occasionally shop at the one on Jones Creek -- no complaints.
My regular dentist did mine. Told me it would be quick and smooth if there were no complications such as crooked roots or pulp stones. Half an hour later he is calling other dentists and hygenists in to look at my pulp stones. Fifteen minutes after that he was cursing my twisty roots. That being said...
It took an hour and a half due to my complications. No pain whatsoever during. My jaw was tired from remaining open so long, despite the brace they put in to hold it open. I became a little claustrophobic as he was moving fast so the anesthesia would not wear off and was right in my face a lot. Back tooth. Porcelain crown. Never a moment's bother since. $600 after insurance. (My dentist is too expensive.)
Husband had one a year later. Different dentist. Molar. NO issues. Went back to work after. $400
Neither of us needed the pain meds.
It is not the hell it used to be.

It may piss me off more because when I was growing up "the kids" knew when the hell we were having homemade ice cream because we were the ones who cranked the handle to make it.
This is true! I don't think Momma was hollering "come and get it". When the kids hollered back "YEAH", she was just gonna say "then you sit your arse on this ice cream freezer and you turn the crank til its done".

Even if you tell her now, she'll probably be pissed that you didn't tell her earlier today.
This. I cannot imagine all this going on with my husband, him not telling me, being patronizing with "not wanting the little woman to worry", and fricking around with the family stability this way. I really hope you do have another job.
The Mandarin Chicken I have encountered does not have a heavy batter like this, and the chicken is not completely covered with sauce. I will check out a few recipes for Mandarin, though. Thanks!
Hong Kong Chicken at Shing's
Posted by eleventy on 9/13/14 at 9:17 pm
Yes, yes, Board of Health, etc. etc. Don't care.
There was a dish at Shing's -- Hong Kong Chicken. A boneless chicken breast fried tempura-style with a brown, slightly sweet gravy/sauce. Probably cornstarch based, probably had five spice powder. I loved it and have found it at no other Chinese restaurant. Anyone remember it or have experience with a similar dish? Hubs thinks I can recreate it. I am not so sure!

My great aunt named herself when she was about three. Of course, she was close to the youngest of ten kids. My great grandmother was probably tired of thinking up names! They called her Baby until she named herself.
What did she come up with?
Oddly, Ruth!
What is also weird is that there was a census in the interim after her birth and before she named herself. The census form on Ancestry.com says Baby.
