I still can't believe their coach was previously an assistant at Walters State CC before taking that job. How many people do you think they offered the job to before landing a JUCO assistant to take it over?

He had previously been an assistant at Murray St. There was a measure of familiarity for both parties.

Kudos to them. It is a fantastic storyline in the CWS.

He will probably get some looks elsewhere soon. Murray St. has won some games the past few years to get them to this moment. Seems like he has them trending in the right direction. These opportunities don't often come a young coaches' way, so I hope he is able to capitalize, as he seems like a good baw.

Right, but they still had to reach pretty far down to pull a JUCO assistant to be their head coach. Regardless of familiarity.

The hire worked out, but let's not pretend Skirka's main characteristic wasn't the same thing that led UNO to hire Blake Dean: cheap.

He was only the recruiting coordinator at Walter. They're a good juco, but you are correct, it was a reach. He has been there for about 7 years now, so he is seeing the fruits of his labor with this year. You could see the excitement in his eyes after the Duke win.

Murray, KY has a population of 17k.

Posting this so there doesn’t need to be a thread about it later

The team deserves better. I like Murray St. except against us.

Not even joking when I say my high school stadium held more fans. We played in an old AA stadium.

Maybe if you count people standing along the fences. Looks like it holds 200 max in actual seating.

It might be 200 in bleachers, but there are tiered berms behind the dugouts that can hold more.

eta: ignore. Someone already posted pics.

That stadium should be getting a facelift after the revenues from this run hit the bank account.

They cold truth of it is a sport with no broadcast rights, no large conference shared revenue, and a travel party of ~three dozen is losing their arse financially by making it to a regional, a super regional and then Omaha.

LSU should take this opportunity to agree to furnish and build 2,500 seats of aluminum bleachers at the stadium AND provide a full time yard guy to cut the grass in exchange for Murray taking back their basketball coach at 75% of the buyout owed by LSU.

If you are Murray St how can you turn that down?! Your stadium gets an upgrade on par with Alex Box Stadium; The coach no longer has to cut the grass every few days; and the once proud basketball program gets a winning HC (for MSU) to lead them back to the NCAA Tournament.

This deal is CRAZY!!!
