Maybe so. It was also 2017 so there were no fears about gathering dozens of students in one place. Even Johnny Jones’ pressse was in a pretty packed room, with other coaches and a few players in attendance. Seemed like today was restricted to general media.

Valid point.

I agree. For a few years after I left Baton Rouge I still listened to 104.5 daily via the app. I'm not a huge fan of Jimmy Ott but I loved Sports Today. Those two were good together.

I tolerated OTB.. but I couldn't even tell you what their lineup is now tbh.

I usually listen to Hannycast and LSU Daily (w/ Moscona) and that gives me about everything I need to know.. that and tRant, of course

Compare today to this: Wade Introductory Press Conference

Free Will Wade!

Gerry Dinardo won the press conference.

I do agree that McMahon didn't do a great job of firing anybody up but ultimately its about winning. Wade had you ready to boot up from day one, and that's why he was mostly beloved by this fanbase.

I don't want to be a pessimist but I am legit just slightly concerned. About a 3 out of 10 concerned about the energy M Mac is showing in this press conference. Idk. Don't want to rag on him without seeing him actually working but man he certainly doesn't have the same sort of high energy that Wade had

You should be concerned. McMahon was brought in and given a long term contract to make sure he stays squeaky clean...winning is a distant second on Woodward's list.

Woodward has made it clear, he's not interested in investing in basketball. He just wants to make sure basketball never bleeds over to football.

We will be in the bottom half of the conference in recruiting and at best middle tier on the court.

5-10 year set back after firing Wade...

He also dodged the question about the sanctions and how that may affect recruiting/the portal, etc...

And the question about meeting with the players.. Unless he addressed it earlier. I missed the first few questions.

And by keeping Wade and fighting the NCAA we were probably looking at a 2-4 year setback. But the upside would be greater IMO.

Wade’s intro Presser vs this.

Wasn't Wade's first presser at the Union and he gave out free Chick Fil A?

Yes he did, but, the money came from his wife's checking account, so it was all good!

And both are ok, we don’t need to know everything. I just thought the Morant recruiting story was unique but I get it, this is about LSU not Morant.

Yeah Hanny got out of the NIL game pretty quick.

Matchpoint seems to be 90% Sarah Edwards based so I could see why someone would get out of that

Dinardo and Wade could be a good comparison. Both brought a lot of enthusiasm back to their sport. Both recruited well and brought in good players. Both started out hot, but fizzled after a few years.

Let’s hope the man that follows Wade can come even close to what the man that followed Dinardo did for LSU.

To be fair CMM does not know what the sanctions will be. No one does.

But he could have said he doesn't know and will adjust as required.

I liked the presser, but I could certainly see how the lack of enthusiasm/excitement could concern some folks. That said, if McMahon wins, none of us will remember our thoughts on the press conference.

I remember Saban’s first press conference

Someone jokingly (br media ho-ho!)asked if he had ever tried gumbo. Saban gave some super analytical answer about how he hadn’t

He sounds like he has a plan and the guy can coach. I don't care how well he gives a sound byte. I care about how he recruits, develops players, and wins games. He's done that.

I don't disagree. I don't care if McMahon ever gives another press conference...as long as he wins. But go back and listen to Wade's introductory press conference. Forget the venue (student union vs. Lawton Room), Wade came out like a bat out of hell saying exactly what he planned to do. Particularly, that they were going to be aggressive in everything they did. And they were. Unfortunately the overagression on the recruiting trail ended his career here. I remember thinking after boring Trent Johnson and just happy to be here Johnny Jones that it sounded like LSU had someone with a plan, vision and excitement to not just win, but win big.

Everyone has different personalities. And it appears McMahon is far more low key. I'm not saying that is a bad thing. Just different. He sounds like a guy that is probably a little bit overwhelmed right now. Which is understandable. But you have to admit the press conference did not instill a feeling of "we're going out there to kick arse!" It was more of a "I'm happy to be here....now can I get to work please?"

Fair or not, he's going to be compared to Wade. Wade may not have reached the pinnacle of the sport at LSU. But in terms of program success it was the most consistent in 30 years. Expectations are, and should be raised.

I agree is some small ways. That said, I don't want to take it out on McMahon at all. I want him to do well and surpass Wade as the best coach in school history (win % wise). I want to give him a chance.

I have mutual friends with mutual friends of McMahon and everyone raves about him and his wife and kids as great people. God fearing people really. People in here will laugh but I worry about that only in the sense of "engaging" with HS recruits. He is a great recruiter on the Big Dog team of his conference. There are 6 Big Dogs in this conference just check out the SEC basketball recruiting rankings and the names of the coaches on those teams.

I worry about that moral compass when it comes recruiting. I have no doubts that he is an incredible man. I just hope he is an incredible man who isn't afraid to get in the mud with Cal, Pearl, Muss, fig Oats, Barnes, Beard, Moser, etc. He can be as good of a coach as any but we won't win here without playing the game (in an undetectable way). There is only so much NIL can do. Mens BB will still be dirty NIL or not

I didn’t mean it as a criticism, it just struck me as odd because the story is cool and they directly asked about it.
