Does that mean he wouldn't play outfield in the MLB?
No moron.
I'm simply stating that he's a much better 1st baseman than he is an outfielder.
He's the best defensive 1st baseman in college baseball, and if you put him on a major league team he'd be a gold glove 1st baseman.

I'm fully aware that if he were to make it the big leagues, the most likely position he's going to be playing is left field b/c he is more than adequate as an outfielder, where as some fat arse that cranks 40 homers a year needs to be the DH or 1st baseman.

none of that changes the fact that he doesn't have a good arm for the outfield.

You need a big hitter at 1B in the bigs. You don’t need a great fielder because most every MLB infielder has a good and accurate arm. Tre is going to have to learn another position to stick in the bigs or become a much more phenomenal hitter than he is now.

Tre is a great college player but them’s the facts of life.

Exactly!

With Beloso or Jones there, we were going to have at least a passed ball or two at 1st.

I dont really understand the obsession with his position at the next level. I only care how he impacts our team...and he's a huge impact. Love me some Morgan.

Then again, I'm not a big fan of Pro baseball. I only hope our former Tigers perform and represent well.

He’s an incredible defensive first baseman. That’s where he needs to stay. As an outfielder with his offensive production he becomes just another guy

I think he's got a better shot of making an MLB roster as "just another guy" in the outfield than as an elite defensive 1st baseman.

His arm is average by pro standards. He just has some work to do to learn how to throw from the OF. Everything is off balance & on the run.

And yes of course he could play 1b, just depends on the situation. But more likely will not hit for the power to justify it for most teams

It’s so hard to make it to the major leagues. Almost impossible. There are countless outfielders in college and pro ball with Tre’s skill set. I personally think his best chance to be a big leaguer is by trying to make himself into a guy who can hit 20+ bombs even if that means he sacrifices his high contact rate in order to do it

The problem is that Tre is not a prototypical MLB first baseman. He is about six feet tall and will not hit for power in the pros. His biggest asset is his versatility; he can play all four outfield positions (he can run) as well as first base.

He really isn't a great runner actually. He's not slow, but he doesn't have plus speed.

I do think Morgan can keep developing power wise.

And that will be the key. If he doesn't he won't make it in the bigs.

Him being left handed really screwed him. He has the hands and athleticism to make a really good middle infielder. Maybe not the arm for SS long term, but definitely could’ve made a great 2B.

He saves us some outs, but this is an exaggeration. Last year this was probably true, with Thompson and Berry spraying balls up and down the right field line.

You just described Tre Morgan. That's why he's so fun to watch. He's always making weird moves, but he gets it done.

We playing mens beer league softball now?

Regardless of the fact you meant 3 OF positions, he cannot play CF or RF at the MLB level. LF and 1B is his only 2 positions and unfortunately for him they both have the same type of player that plays the position. Bigger, not as athletic type that can hit a baseball a very far ways consistently.

He isn't fat enough.

I mean seriously though, if he was 250 lbs and doing the things he is doing, nobody would even question him being at 1st.

Going back 35/40 years, he’s Keith Hernandez at the collegiate level.

His stretch and dig on that Thompson throw yesterday was more impressive than the play Thompson made.

You are a fool if you don't think the play Thompson made was damn near impossible to make.

Nothing that happened in this tournament was a better play than that. And Kentucky made some big time plays.

I love Morgan. People just love to over-exaggerate his weak points on this board. His arm is fine for LF or even CF. He just needs time in the OF to learn the nuisances. And he needs to drop some of weight he’s gained & really commit to getting his body right.
