I’m talking college, yes. And I was born in the 80s. 3B coach would call time to talk to a hitter especially after 2 quick outs. Or a hitter would call time himself to adjust something like his gloves. Slowing the game down has been a part of the game for a century.

yeah it's like boomers think the game is slower now =and strategic stalling is something new nd unique to certain coaches (I was born in the mid 80s), when in reality, it's quite the opposite. the only reason jay calls time outs is because of the pitch clock, something that hasn't been around very long. If the pitch clock didn't exist, he wouldn't need to do that

Believe it or not I met this guy many years ago at a HS game watching my cousin play. He was wearing a Miss St hoodie and backpack and I asked if he was there scouting someone. He said it was 2 players and talked about what he was looking for specifically. They already had the measurables from a showcase but he was looking to see how developed they were in some of the finer points of the game. It was pretty cool to see it from that perspective. Really couldn’t have been more friendly and personable. Sorry to disappoint
