The only national show on ESPN radio worth listening to for any insight is Bomani Jones' show.

SVP and Rusillo are good fodder for entertainment. But don't expect anything insightful from the rest of those blowhards.

rpg37, it actually would've sounded less dumbly racist if you'd called them the black dumb and dumber.

Is it equally as bad for espn the magazine or SI to have put Shaq or Tebow on their covers when they were in college? It for espn to promote a big upcoming game that has a famous collegiate athlete in it?
It seemed to me they're main complaint was that LSU was breaking an NCAA rule. They don't seem much opposed to the schools/NCAA making a lot of money off amateurs.

If the NBA had good sense, they would allow high school graduates to go pro after high school, but make it mandatory for them to spend first year in developmental league. Then, they would be making money off those players, and the players could make money. Also, they would better know who is draft ready.

I believe in the three-year concept. If you sign with a school, you should have 3 to play 3.

I do find it funny that ESPN,NCAA & Universities like to play between the lines on this subject.

Greeny and today's guests, Jemele Hill and Michael Smith, all found it offensive and inappropriate. ETA: Primary point of contention being, this is not using a player's vague likeness, but LSU is clearly using the player's number and name as the spearhead for the marketing campaign.

Then someone should post a picture of a lsu tennis player, golf player, swimmer, soccer, etc and say, lsu is losing money on these players. Should they cancel these sports?

dumb argument.

ESPN pays billions to broadcast collegiate athletics. How much of that goes straight to the student athletes pockets like these people think it should?

ESPN uses these players to get people to watch their channels and make money. But let's complain about a school doing that.

It's smart marketing. By virtue of crooked collusion with the NBA, LSU has been gifted a tremendously valuable asset that will be at LSU for one year.

If LeBron James had signed with LSU, and LSU didn't market the hell out of him, that would have been the most foolish non-marketing effort I've ever heard of.

Not marketing is straight giving away brand value.

I think I remember Ole Miss doing this same kind of thing with Eli Manning, except of course that they did use his name. There was even that awful song, "Eli's Coming!"

Mike & Mike think that college bats and baseballs are "hotter" than pro bats and baseballs.

in reality pro bats and baseballs travel farther than college bats and baseballs even though one is wood.

Since Mike and Mike don't know this about college sports, there is probably other things they don't know about college sports. and maybe the Simmons thing is something else they don't know about.

It's an okay idea, but it doesn't allow for much middle ground. It's a good approach from a fan's perspective, but it's a bad approach for most of the players. What I proposed is bad for college fans but more fair to players. Obviously, there's going to be the same number of losers no matter what.

That isn't accurate. People get caught up in the big numbers for the major sports. But all of the profits pay for scholarships for ALL sports, tutors, meal plans, housing, etc.

The deals ESPN make go to the conferences and are divided amongst the schools. We can't forget that the profitable sports pay for the entire athletic department and sports. Thank goodness for TAF or we wouldn't be able to pay for the facilities we currently have.
