Here is a good rule of thumb: If you can walk your mascot around on a leash, it's not the same as a tiger.

Dr. Baker said it's not stressful on the tiger. So what's the problem?

PETA can only complain to the owner.
IT doesn't have anything to do with PETA.

It's not PETA, it's the requirements of establishing an official tiger sanctuary to secure procurement of tigers into the future.
Who knows if Tom's current owner will be able to get another tiger after Tom dies? It's getting harder and harder. Establishing an official sanctuary is the way LSU decided was best to maintain the tradition of keeping a live tiger on campus into the future.

Is it possible those are different species of animals?

These mike threads are the best.
Its so entertaining watching the mouth breathers scream sjw and peta over and over again when this is 100% a lsu vet school/dr baker decision.

I promise you, if they were still rolling him out there we'd see weekly threads of "why are we even doing this anymore" and "it's pretty lame, Mike is sleeping the entire time".
great point

A 5 year old article, nice.
Find the quote where dr baker blames peta and sjw for me.
Thanks.

Dr. Baker is correct.
As someone who has owned exotic cats (African Servals), I can tell you that any departure from that animal’s normal daily routine stresses it, more so than other non-feline species. No, it doesn’t shorten the animal’s life and typically the animal returns to form rather quickly after returning to its normal routine, but there is some inherent short-term risk.
I always tried to limit transporting mine at all as much as possible. The vet did house calls.

Has Dr. Baker changed his position since then? I'm seriously asking, maybe he did.

If you want to have LSU acquiring tigers into the future, the best way is to have a certified tiger sanctuary. In order to get that certification, you can't roll him around the stadium in a trailer anymore. (Nor can you walk him around the stadium on a leash like you would for Bevo, Ralphie, Reveille or UGA. It's a fricking TIGER for God's sake.)
It's not about PETA, it's not about SJWs, it's about adults determining what's in the best interests of having tigers on campus into the future.

When you say Dr. Baker is correct, do you mean when he said the stadium didn't stress out Mike? Or is there an article quoting Baker as saying the opposite?

To hell with all of you people. Give it a fricking rest
