What am I supposed to cry because both Chavis and Steele jumped ship???

Cry?? After losing a DC two years in a row causing another setback potentially to the defense? Nah! It's not like it will create any uncertainty to the direction of the defense.

Hopefully, Miles already had a plan in place and that's why Steele wasn't reportedly out on the recruiting trail heading into the dead-period. If Pelini comes back then I recant my statement.

You mean other than LSU having hired two DC in the last seven years who were respected enough to be hired by other SEC teams.

This is like when you are sick of your girlfriend but don't know how to break up with her, then she breaks up with you for another guy and solves the problem for you.

Steele wasn't that great of a hire and the proof was the dropping D rankings. You won't find a post of mine pro-steele.

Why not? You should support LSU's coaches!!!

I wasn't trashing anyone. I think this is a mutually beneficial departure for the team.

Funny. If someone says exactly this about Miles, you say it's trashing.

I think you need to make up your fricking mind.

I'm usually concerned about the next guy when one leaves. While there are better DCs out there, I think Steele would have improved in his second year.

In this case, though, we know the absolute worst case, or maybe it should be said the laziest move, is promoting O. That's a good spot to be in, assuming we don't mess this up and get a worse coach than O.

In other words, what would cause 1 DC to leave after 6 years and then another to leave after only 1. I can see it now in recruiting. "I like the school, but how, as a recruit, will I fit into a system that is now undefined, once again?"

Yeah, that will really work.

Shrewd move. Congratulations, War Eagles! Please don't take our special teams coach, too!

Y'all need to chill out. That man bled purple and gold the months he was at LSU.

I'm probably the only one around who didn't mind Steele.

I do not like the idea of promoting from within.. especially when there is no experience at that position.

Unless that's what it would take keep that coach..

but still.. I just wish we had gone a whole new route to begin with. Oh well, hope they can find a great defensive coordinator to replace.

You trying to equate Kevin Steele and his history of failures as a D coordinator to Les Miles and the best 11 year run in school history as head coach of a National Powerhouse program is a terrible comparison and I know you know this.

Why do people keep saying this? The guy has never been a defensive coordinator in his career. Don't you think there is a reason for that.

It wouldn't have bothered me if he'd stayed, but he's not worth getting into a bidding war over. Actually I thought last year that he may have been a one year stop-gap coach, a la Malveto, since Miles didn't get one of his first choices.
