Did Miller start for a 1 seed in the ncaa tournament? He only averaged 8 PPG for Illinois.

That’s an odd way to say yes Adam he started on a number 1 seed Illinois team.

I think it is more like one more year

It depends.

If Ward returns, we finish this season strong, and continue improvement through next year finishing out with a strong class — they would have to faceplant the following season for his seat to really heat up.

But if we unravel down the stretch here & next year turns out a side-grade to this season, he would need a great class at that point to have any chance at quelling the angry mobs + would likely need to follow that up with an around .700+ season.

I like what I’ve seen in terms of improvement & player development over the course of this year. The UK game was one of the grittiest upsets I can recall being on the winning end of — that team was insanely more athletic than we were, and it’s not like they were having an off day either.

If MM can get some dudes here, I think he will be very successful.

This may be a shock, but I don't think it is up to you.

They literally do all of this now in the PMAC. Just renovate it.

I don't think you can say he "had" a player when they miss most of the season with an injury. And the other was Adam Miller who was a shell of his former self coming off of an injury.

You sound like Madking saying the team should be better this year with our 5 star center Collins.

He needs to add some talent, then next season is put up or shut up time imo. We have to make it to March Madness or MM’s seat will be red hot. It’s infuriating, even with all the sports successes at LSU, how few truly competitive MBB we’ve had in the past several decades. Being a top 68 team is not asking for the world.

I’m not suggesting we should compete for the Final Four every year, and understand the value in postseason experience for a team in building mode, but most of the fanbase gives zero fricks about the NIT. It’s no different than playing in some shitty secondary bowl game.

No.

2-16 in the sec with 2 starters from NCAA Tournament teams and free transfers is my concern.

Losing to Nicholls is my concern.

I’m not saying he should be fired. I even said im hopeful based on recent games.

The point of this thread is to discuss that he now has a timeline.

Scott can no longer ignore men’s Basketball because he is now going to have to answer questions that have a check attached to them.

He’s got a good recruiting class coming in and he will be out from under Wade’s frickups.

I agree that beginning next season, McMahon is on the clock.

Not a 20 win season in that scenario. We're 14-13.

Mac gets at least two more years... if he recruits, he's good.

Theoretically every coach is always "on the clock" because a good AD should be constantly evaluating the state of the program. What varies between each program is what constitutes "success" (or at least enough success to warrant keeping a HC for another year). The results of the last two seasons at LSU would get the HC of Kentucky fired with a quickness. But that is because the expectations are much higher at UK.

I don't think anyone can say with any degree of certainty McMahon definitely will be at LSU beyond next season. Now, obviously the expectations won't be anywhere close to something like "Elite 8/Final 4 or bust". But it should be more than having a non-descript out of conference and bottom 1/3rd of the SEC performance. If that is the case next year then I think it would be more than reasonable to consider if this is a HC that could get LSU to what should be the ultimate goal of every major college basketball program...consistently competing for championships. If after three years under McMahon the AD doesn't really see any signs of the program possibly ever reaching that level then I think you have to consider whether it is time to go in a different direction. The AD ultimately may not. But it would be an internal analysis he'd have to consider.

For a certain group of “fans” expectations for basketball have become warped beyond recognition. So far, with a lot more talent, McMahon has failed to even reach Trent Johnson level success post 2009. Anybody saying it’s acceptable for this to continue has an agenda other than wanting success for LSU basketball.

How many of those games did those 2 former starters play in? One? Would Adam Miller have started for any tournament teams last year?

Alright that is a lot more fair than how it comes off — and it mostly comes off that way because of the majority of past BBall discourse on the board.

Still, while I agree he doesn’t have infinite time & we need to continue to improve I also don’t think the new arena has much bearing on that.

Bigger deal will be does Ward come back / how do we finish this season & how does the roster ultimately pan out for next year.

These are wild guesses that depend on unknowable factors. If McMahon never wins another game then he'll be gone next year. How long he lasts depends on how well he does.
