Let’s see how next year goes

We need to hit in the portal. Get a couple shot makers and a big or two with actual hands

We aren’t building a new arena, yet.

I’m guessing the over/under is five years.
Just a guess.

That's my big concern. I know to an extent that basketball has gotten to a point of rebuilding pretty much every year with the portal. But it's not really sustainable.

What is sustainable is the growth we've seen in guys like Reed, Ward, and Williams. I'm really hoping we can hold onto them and not let someone else get the best years of their college career. But we lose damn near everyone else off the roster.

We only have a couple freshmen coming in.

We have a good nucleus with the guys brought in through the traditional recruiting path. But it's such a small number and the portal is very volatile.

McMahon has at least two more years before his seat gets hot. He’s got potential and needs time to build it.

These next 4 games are winnable. I would almost take 3-1 and not have to play them. That would be a 20 win season and .500 in conference play. Definite improvement and positive outlook for next year.

We will see. I am hopeful. But I bet if we take a step back next year then Scott makes a move either after the season or the following.

People aren’t going to shell out money for a loser.

Hopefully you can have that core group to build around and use the portal to supplement the rest of your key needs. We’re definitely gonna need a shooter and some help inside with rim protection and rebounding.

We are talking about a MASSIVE investment in the BBall program.

Do you think Scott is telling donors that their money is to continue to be middle to bottom half in the conference?

Yeah. I like Coach MM’s actual coaching. And he has done well under the circumstances with the roster up until now. My big “iF” with him is the roster next season. On paper it does not look better than this season as of right now. To me at least. And no matter how good the coach is, you need the talent when you play in the SEC these days if you want to have a legit shot at winning the conferance. He has time with the portal so hopefully we get better.

The new arena will be used for a lot more than men's basketball games. The articles I've seen said it's going to be an entertainment venue in addition to women's BB, gymnastics, volleyball, graduations, championship celebrations, etc.

The building itself will not have anything to do with McMahon's timeline for success, especially since its many years from being completed anyway.

I think it is more like one more year. The excuse train will fully be over next year (except for those diligent few who refuse to find any grounds for criticism whatsoever) and it has never been easier to quickly "rebuild" a winning team. If after next season the team is still hovering around .500 and no real threat to make the NCAA Tournament it will be very reasonable to evaluate if this is just a waste of time relative to the ultimate goal of being a competitive program. Twice in the last 20 years LSU has hung on to a HC after it was clear the program was going nowhere (Johnson after 2 seasons with 5 total SEC wins; Jones after the wasted "Simmons" year). All it resulted in was greater apathy to build from for the next HC. There's generally no reason to prolong what is inevitable.

However, to the OP's point, any new arena is so far into the future that it won't have any bearing of the evaluation of McMahon in the next couple of years.

McMahon rebuilt again this year because his previous team wasn't good enough. If he can regularly put SEC level teams together, including recruiting useful players out of high school, he should be able to avoid a total rebuild every season.

Apparently LSU will give him plenty of time to try and get it right.

You should take a breath and go back to see what he was left with. Not a figure of speech, but he literally started with 0 scholly players.

LSU is currently 14-13. 3-1 or even 4-0 won't get them to a "20 win season"
