Thought process was that OSU was already down their #2 and #3 guys and that they would need to throw their #1 game 1. Basically make sure you win game one and then let your offense beat up on OSU’s #4 guy with a very capable Floyd on the mound.

That being said, he still said his preference would be start Floyd v Tulane and Skenes in game 2 with Hurd either closing out a close game or starting game 3.

Nope. Skenes needs to pitch tomorrow. Case closed. It’s all about your third pitcher in these situations. Let’s say it’s Hurd. You want Hurd pitching against Tulane or OSU/Sam Houston? Also if we can’t beat Tulane with anyone besides Skenes we don’t deserve to win shite.

We should not need to use Skenes to beat Tulane. With that being said, I certainly agree with the philosophy of going with the "sure" thing to stay in the top half of the bracket. I just worry so much about our hitting disappearing at the wrong times.

But what if we are playing Sam Houston tomorrow?

IDGAF what Mcdonald thinks

Throwing Skenes against Tulane would be dumb

Hurd gonna go 6 and give up 2 and we're gonna roll them 11-3

Need skenes in game 2 to make sure you don't get eliminated 2 and que.

Winning game 1 means nothing if you lose game 2

You can lose game 1 and win game 2 and you are in the same exact location as the first scenario.

I just don’t understand why we would throw Skenes out there against a 4 seed. Ty Floyd is a very capable #2 that would set us up perfectly in game 1. Then bring out the best pitcher in the country in the winners bracket against a better team. Then you have hurd in game 3 to close it out if he isn’t needed in the first 2 games to secure the win

I think we down play how good Floyd has been bc we also have Skenes.

We'll have to win at least one without Skenes or Floyd to get out of the regional. Tulane is the best chance to do that, and no guarantee we even see OSU.

Here comes the part where our fanbase thinks they know more about baseball strategy, than Ben McDonald and a collegiate head coach.

I understand the argument for starting Floyd game 1 but I 100% do not see a valid argument to start Skenes game 1. I prefer Hurd going first just like in the SEC Tournament. The only thing that one of my colleagues brought to my attention was in the Super Regionals if we get the Thursday, Friday, Saturday slot then Floyd pitching game 2 of the Super becomes a question with short rest.

I agree and posted 10 times already that game 1 is a most win!! Gotta throw Floyd or Skenes!! And other in game 2. Hurd is still too risky!
