That’s my point. Ya they LOOK like a point and are playing that position, but for a point guard they sure have missed a few open shooters, and mishandled the ball.
But I’m pretty critical of that position. Maybe by conference play, they will have played together enough to iron it out.

Givens is about as close to a true PG as you're getting in modern college basketball. It's his first game as a true freshman so a little sloppiness can be expected.

Sears and Givens are true PGs

They looked good. Great to see some decent guard play, and now there's some depth. Rebounding was solid. Outside shooting was subpar.

There's work to do, but the team is 1-0.

I really like Bailey. Glue guy that every team needs kind of like Herb Jones.

I believe in this team, and they're really playing like a team so far

He and sears are quick to fire and so far the numbers are solid. But he’s lunch meat on the wing without an open shot. Had about 3 or 4 dribbles\passes deflected but tried to move the offense. Will need to attack the basket eventually.
Overall I agree, a solid pg.

I think by the end of the year you can add VJ Miller to that list . He had a couple great passes last night and didn’t look uncomfortable handling the ball . Great group of guards this year that will continue to get better

CMM knows basketball and I think we are going to surprise a lot of people.

One big thing I’ve noticed that separates this team from the other two MM has had at LSU is chemistry. This feels like the first team he’s had where everyone is on the same page and the whole team seems to get along. I think that’s going to be huge, as it was quite obvious his past two teams had chemistry issues and that held them back.

I wouldn’t say everyone was on the same page. There were a lot of disjointed moments on both ends of the floor. Guys cutting to the same spot, screener/ball handler not quite on the same page, some shaky defensive switches.

But this is a fresh roster where most of these guys have never played together. There are enough positive skill sets on this roster to form a solid team with good coaching. Hope McMahon can get them there.

not on the same page schematically but emotionally and chemistry wise

I'm optimistic too. But you can't tell any of that from one game.

Literally on the same day last year (11/6) LSU had a 46 point win in the opener. 5 guys scored in double figures. Baker had 29 in a dominant performance. LSU had 19 assist on 34 made baskets. 11 guys played at least 10 minutes. They held their opponent to 38% shooting.

...Four days later they lost to Nicholls St in a game LSU trailed by 19 at halftime.

It was a nice first win. But you can't take away in broad, sweeping conclusions from one game. It's going to take a bit of time to see what kind of team this is.

I mean…Miss Valley State was 1-30 last year. As an HBCU. I’m not sure you can make a fair comparison between the two being remotely similar, respectfully.

Exactly, I can recall getting texts from some friends and reading posts here after that game about how well the offense flowed, the ball movement, the player movement. And then Nichols. Nichols say one game of tape, adjusted and we didn't handle it well.

One thing is the athleticism is better overall. Not sure about the toughness yet though, I need to see more.

will baker, the biggest reason we lost to nicholls, is no longer on the team.

i said numerous times that jalen reed would play much better without baker on the floor. take a look at last night's game, reed was down in the low post scoring well from the same spots baker created a black hole from last year.

im not worried.

3.5. Williams is erratic as hell. Vyc's handle isn't bad.
