I used to go to the tournament sometimes. A couple things happen with their fans. First, they aren’t nearly as smart as they think they are regarding basketball. Second- the fans at the tournament include a lot of fans who can’t get season tickets at Rupp. They are able to get tickets to the tournament from other schools or on the secondary market. They are seeing their team sometimes for the first time in person all season. That gives them extra passion. Add to that their arrogance that they think they are head and shoulders above every other SEC program and you get a fan base at the tournament that is loud and obnoxious. Individually most of them are fine. But as a whole, they suck if you are a fan of another team.
