Same people who complain about people standing to cheer on their team, are the same people who clear out by the third quarter and who don't make any noise unless we have a big play on offense... These people are the reason that Death Valley isn't even in the top-10 toughest places to play anymore. It's a sporting event! People are going to be standing!!!! So either get on board or simply ignore it and enjoy the fact that u r part of a fanbase that really cares about their team. If not then stay home!!!!

when i was a student, the thought of sitting during a game was reprehensible. but i'm long since removed from the student section.
i just do what the people in front of me do.
i'm not going to stand if everyone around me is sitting.

Problem with most "LSU fans" is that they enjoy saying they were at the game, more than actually being at the game.
Who are you to dictate how people enjoy LSU games? The only "problem" is fans like you who feel superior to others. FWIW I enjoy standing for big plays.

Need to crunch the numbers but you might be onto something.

Ahh the old stand/sit argument. Just one more sign that football season is back!!!
I don't get the "NEED" to stand. Can a person not yell loudly while sitting down? Is it physically impossible?
For the record, I stand when everyone else around me is doing so (usually opening kickoff/first drive, big late game 3rd/4th down plays) I do it not because I feel it's necessary, or that my standing will be the difference in making the 3rd down stop, but because I'm not going to bitch when everyone else is standing up. That said....
Why be an inconsiderate dick and stand up the whole game while everyone else it sitting down. Is it because you feel it's your "job" as a fan. The you "must stand-up the whole game or you're not a REAL fan" mentaility seems to come from many people starting their Tiger Stadium experience in the student section where everyone stands. Just because that's the way it is in the student section doesn't mean you have to stand up the whole game when you "graduate" to other parts of the stadium.

Call it feeling superior, I call it actually doing my job as a fan. If more fans would stand up and cheer, Tiger Stadium would be much better.
If everyone sat on their arse while the players are waving their hands trying to get us to make noise, the place would be as intimidating as a park

I thought the south end zone was the sit down section

You're not part of the team or coaching staff you don't have a job on game day just enjoy it your way, be considerate and don't complain how others enjoy it their way.

student section stands all game.....everywhere else in TS you will get older people who can't physically do it, so tbh it's understandable if the older fans would like to sit and if you are standing in their way and they ask you to not block their view of the field, you should respect their wishes.
Sucks to get old.

"I try to be respectful to everyone around me. If I know there are sitters behind me I will not stand unless those in front of me are standing. Its really easy to get along with others when you recognize no one is more special than anyone else.
You don't have to be a prick to be cool."
It is so surprising and unfortunate to see that this is not the thought process of at least 95% of the posts. Oh, well ...
I am one who gets excited and stands arguably more than I should. I have been asked to sit down a handful of times over the years and I always just say "sure, sorry about that, no problem." Only time I ever got upset and had words was when I was stretching my legs in between quarters and a guy behind me complained loudly and rudely that I was blocking his view ... of nothing. So, although I agree completely with Erin, here is some advice to those who are having their view blocked:
(1) stand yourself - it isn't your fault if the person in front of you is standing;
(2) ask the person POLITELY to sit and in doing so, perhaps throw in that you understand that they are going to stand up for big plays and crucial 3rd/4th downs. You might be surprised how well that works, although it sounds like it will not work with everyone on this board.

Oh, the players don't feed off of crowd noise?
The players are just trying to cool themselves off when they are waving there hands up and down to get a reaction out of our bandwagon crowd?

I, personally, do not yell out of my arse.
I can do it just as loud while sitting if I'm around other fans who prefer to sit.
YMMV.

Standing means you care more about the team?
Maybe we should all show how much our TAF contributions are and base fandom off of $ donated.
There is an etiquette to follow at games. You don't stand in a section where no one else is standing. It is rude and blocks their view. If no one is standing in front of you sit the frick down.

"Well the OP hasn't specified as to whether it was due to him standing the entire game or only a handful of plays. Nor has he specified whether The people in front of him were standing.
If its a big play/kickoff/3rd down/the people in front of me are standing, I'm un-assing and not asking those behind me for permission. I think this is commonly accepted game etiquette. If anyone has a problem with this, then they are showing me just as much disrespect as you're admonishing this guy for having."
I bet very few people would have a problem with someone following this approach.

Cheering loud has nothing to do with sitting or standing. Last I checked Tiger Stadium always comes alive when the players need it.
