Gotta let them live their own lives and make their own way.
Like one of Verge's kids, just because you pick a school doesn't mean you can't portal out of there.

Yeah I get not wanting to be in your dad's shadow. Although it's two different sports. I just can't imagine growing up in Baton Rouge like he did and not absolutely loving LSU and doing anything I could to play there,.. regardless of family... Especially if I'm getting paid.
Like I said, I just don't relate. But whatever makes him happy. Hope he has a great career

Thought the Spears family lived in Plano or Irving.
When did Jr live in BR?

Would like to have him but I can understand him going to Texas with his sister there and easy for his family to see both of them play

His father was a True Tiger, its just sad that it didn't pass on to his kids. My dad loving LSU so much was a big part of the reason I loved LSU so much growing up. Just disappointing.

But LSU was not his home school, it was his dad’s and a different sport. You’re looking at it through the lens of you the fan who’s probably been to a handful of games a year for the past 20 years. Spears Jr likely has been to 10 games in his life.
Texas offered better money, Austin is a better city to live in for 6-8 months and they have much better facilities than LSU. I’m as much of a die hard alum as the rest, but gotta take care off the purple and gold glasses some times and look.

No matter what, Marcus Spears name will always be associated with LSU.

Stop looking at this through the lens of a fan.
Texas currently will face less scrutiny (because of Will Wade), is located in a better city, has better facilities and offered more money.
If your dad still forced you to go to the school he liked knowing everything else, he’d be the a-hole.

Everything you said is true and I get it. But two things can be true. I can understand why but still be disappointed as an LSU fan.

I get that. They were behind the 8 ball already and even moreso when he decided to reclassify. Timing didn’t work out.
LSU needs to win some game or do something to change the stigma that was thrown on Wade. I don’t care much for basketball, but there is no reason the program should ever be worse than middle of the conference.

Wow, this is an L for Wade. Not blaming him because he was late to arrive, but this one hurts.

Not really. Blame the joke that was in the position for the last four years and probably called Spears once in that time
Posted on 7/10/26 at 11:30 am to Barrylsu
No way Marcus was letting him go the Baton Rouge. None.

If you're ever going to turn it around, you can't watch players like this and Chris Cenac from N.O. walk out the door.

Spears Jr isn’t from Louisiana. He’s a Texas kid and his sister also attends UT. But go ahead and ignore facts and attribute the loss to whomever you decide. It’s 2026 and the way of doing things. Ignore facts, have opinions.

The same people who refused to acknowledge inheriting an empty roster with potential draconian NCAA sanctions was irrelevant for the prior coach now want to blame that coach for the failure to sign current recruits, What a bunch of fricking hypocrites.

The real hypocrites are the ones that gave CoachMc 4 "year-zeros" and are already chalking up losses to Wade for not landing a Texas kid a few months into his tenure.
