Someone offered him a bunch of $$$ because he would have had a big role this season.

Let him walk.
That’s all he did this year.

If Charles Davalan doesn’t miss play that ball.
Get out of here with this bullshite.
If Moore and Evans don’t miss significant time? If Chris Stanfield doesn’t missed the entire season last season? If Jake Brown doesn’t misplay that ball at UNC or miss the last month of the season this year…
You can if this shite to death. Baseball doesn’t give a shite about “if”. Statistics will get you every single time when you least expect if.
Here is the one and only rule - Pitching and defense wins games and championships. Consistency in those 2 gets coaches into the hall of fame.
You cannot lose pitchers and your defense can’t suck even with great pitching. Last season LsU did both for lengths of time. The defense killed some of the pitchers and helped inflate their numbers because they had to stay on the field longer than they should have.
Pitchers walked a shite load too which inflated numbers.
No sport is more beautiful than baseball when it’s played in true harmony.

I never want LSU to “loose” a guy.

Lmao so a freshman has zero upside ? Omg you people where do you
Come from ? Because they didn’t pitch well as a freshman or sophomore they are not allowed to improve GTFOH!

Paz's decision just underscores the dilemma both coaches and players are in. Coaches can't bypass more experienced portal prospects; players have to have a clear path to the field.
In Paz's case, realistically, what's his most probable role in '27? Unless he becomes the de facto "closer," he can expect to get a few innings during midweek games and a few more on the weekends. And perhaps, hope to become a starter in '28. I suppose in his mind, he needs more opportunities in '27 to better position himself for '28.
(And IDK if he's a draft elgible soph.)

Judging by the way last year’s freshmen developed into their sophomore, lsu doesn’t have the time to wait for Paz to develop.
Also pitchers come back from Tommy John all the time and are able to pitch to their previous form. He didn’t walk a batter per inning because he had Tommy John.

Paz leaves and it opens another roster spot.
Now go out and find another guy who is as good or better and who wants to be a Tiger.
That’s what JJ is paid to do. It’s not the end of the world.

Paz was one of the pitchers Jay was talking about specifically as being an anchor of the pitching staff next year. He's definitely more potential than results but it's a significant loss if for no other reason than it throws a wrench in Jay's plans.
I was thinking we'd be done grabbing pitchers in the portal outside of maybe a depth piece, but I think now we may need to go find another upper end arm if we can. To be fair I don't know much about incoming freshman pitchers, so maybe not, but after this year the more reliable arms we have the better I'd feel. Can Cowan get a local judge to rule he had a cold in his freshman year and therefore needs to be allowed to play another season?

I’m in the middle on this one. Wanted him to stay because he has a ton of talent. But wasn’t as impressed with him as many others seem to be. Going to A&M sucks.

It’s less about Paz than what it represents. It’s the first contributor we’ve wanted to keep that we’ve lost.
And to lose him to Jethro Bodine and his band of merry figs, who offer zero practical advantages over LSU is frustrating.
