Can Evans leaving Norfolk State really be considered a "major announcement"?
Good point.

Top 3 candidates so far

Johnny Jones
Tubby Smith
Anthony Evans

Glad we weeded out the others.

Why would we hire a coach from the MEAC? It's a shitty conference with shitty teams, no better than the SWAC.

I am with you on this.

This would be a "what have you done for me lately" hire. The guy's team beat a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament so everyone thinks he is the next big thing. Not taking any credit away from them, but that game was a fluke.

This is the guy's wiki page.

Not a homerun hire, but certainly not a flop hire IMO....decent hire, would be interesting to see how he does at LSU.

He would be a flop hire. You hire the resume. One upset in the tourney (after which they got embarrassed by UF btw) does not a resume make. 3-4 years from now? He might be a decent hire. Not right now.

IMO, since these appear to be the top 3 candidates, we might as well gamble on some unknown young coach no one has heard of.

WTF does Tubby being from Maryland have to do with anything? It has been confirmed that Tubby was in Virginia at the Portsmouth, along with dozens of other coaches.

This is proof Rosetta doesn't know anything if he's grasping at that straw.

I don't think it's any of those three.

I think alleva knows he's got to get a big name/great coach.

The money he spends on a quality coach will be repaid with fans buying tickets

I'm glad that you guys know more than the AD. You know, all great coaches started at lower-tier schools. Let the people whose jobs depend upon it make the call.

Exactly. I've been to the PIT before. Tons of coaches from all over the country are there.

Also, Percy harvin grew up from right down the street.. Landstown HS

Folks, this is not happening. If anyone can give me an example of a coach from a historically black college making the jump to head coach of a major college, I would like to see it. I don't think it's ever happened.

Yes many great coaches did however they typically had to sustain success for more than one year to get another job. This is his first HC job and they havent had any success during his 5 years of coaching until this season. Before Evans moves up he has to win for 1 or 2 more years.
