That’s what 8 head coaches think after every weekend series.

Where is his analytics coming from? There should be a detailed analysis of every team and player within all the league games scheduled.

Not sure why our fans trash Mainieri soo much. Yeah he wasnt Skip Bertman but college baseball was considerably different when he took over the program(ironic i know from his comments in the thread) and only Tim Corbin and Ray Tanner won 2 national championships during his tenure. LSU Florida and Vanderbilt were considered the cream of the crop. With Vanderbilt having the private scholarship advantage.

Maybe that is the problem with the fans on this board. They still think its the 90s.

He gets bagged on because he took off after winning in 2009 and didn't bring consistent effort year to year while our rivals rose. He also didn't recruit off campus, outsourced that to the assistants.

On the topic though, I think because Jay Johnson makes this challenge look easier than it is, Paul probably misjudged what he was getting into.

He took over a program that players should be migrating to. If they aren't, whose fault is that?

The coach obviously.

Totally separate from hiring Jay Johnson, the decision to part ways with Paul is one of Woodward's most underrated and unheralded moves.

He’s fat, though.

Paul is a natty coach because of LSU, LSU isn't a natty school because of Paul.

How do you figure that? Jones and Frey were freshmen in 2023.

NIL has made the SEC just that much better than everyone else. The Big 10 has money, but the weather situation really works against them. The best teams will always be in the South with a few in the West.

Honestly, yes. It started with the 5 round draft in 2020. Mainieri quit before the shortened drafts really started to have an effect. He only had one year of it, when guys like Crews were freshmen. Then the transfer portal and NIL added another massive advantage for the SEC. He’s done a shite job and him underestimating the job is not an excuse but it is a lot different now

NIL and shortened draft means more and better players are playing college. So, yes.

Yes…and no. The league has been changing since several years before he retired. He’s just finally noticing.

Do you think they just popped up on the radar and committed and signed with LSU after Johnson got hired?

Yes the gsme has changed

Which is why I was so surprised he took the job in the first places.

Older coaches are walking away left and right because of changes.

Paul was a great coach. I hate seeing it end like this. Go back to retirement Paul. You can still have lunch with Skip and Jay, and if you feel the itch, I’m sure Traction can use your help.

What do you mean exactly? Jay coached the 22 season.

Ah yeah, I got the years mixed up, they weren’t already signed. But they were already committed to LSU when we hired Jay.
