It will be interesting to see if he ever lives up to his hype. He'll be gone after this season, so he's running out of time.

Suspend him for Grambling like every other school in the SEC would get to do.

Should have activated Smith for a game and had him serve the suspension last year.

It’s a unit with multiple players

You don’t think one player can swing a close game in your favor? Especially when that player is a guy like Maason Smith.

Last year’s FSU game literally came down to a missed extra point. Any number of individual plays could have changed that outcome.

I mean sure - there are positions where it would hurt worse to lose a starter. But calling it “laughable” to think Smith could be a difference-maker in the game seems a little silly.

How the frick is that possible with NIL?

Was doing an autograph signing with Kayshon in ‘21 (before Mason’s freshman season) BEFORE NIL went into effect. Kayshon served his suspension during UAB last season, Kelly said he had the flu …

Mason didn’t serve his suspension last season due to injury

Can we please go back to playing McNeese week 1?

Absolutely ridiculous to serve a suspension for that. Our compliance is full of morons.

Any chance they can appeal it? Then after the FSU game can say Nevermind he will serve it in week 2.

Maybe Maason Smith wasn’t going to be 100% for the FSU game anyway and CBK sees it as a way to kill 2 birds with one stone. Maason Smith stays healthy for the SEC gauntlet and appeases the NCAA with the one game suspension simultaneously. It would suck to see him get banged up in the first game of the season again.

UPDATE: Multiple sources have confirmed Maason Smith and Kayshon Boutte participated in an autograph signing in the summer of 2021 prior to NIL going live.

Wasn't the whole NIL thing brought about because of a court ruling that it was unconstitutional or illegal to deny players the ability to benefit from their name, image and likeness? If it was unconstitutional, how can they use it against Smith?

So today they suspend him for the biggest game in 2023 season - makes perfect sense? I smell BS.
