Honestly, I would take Dave Aranda. We know he can flat out coach defense, and he’s already very familiar with the LSU football program and the culture of the area. He was already the associate head coach at LSU and basically held Coach O’s hand for 3 years. I think he would be a great fit and would turn the Tiger football program around quickly.

At this point either is better than the current crop of coaches. I’d take Fickell only because he has been a HC for longer and has played in bigger games then Dave. I’d make him tell me no multiple times.

I would go Luke first out of those two.

The job Luke wants likely isn’t going to be open anytime soon, only concern would be a lack of ties to the area recruiting wise. Easy to overcome that though

I know most want to dismiss BOB…but you have to separate O’Brien the coach vs the awful GM

I think either would be an upgrade however Dave doesn’t have enough HC experience. He does have the #2 offense and #3 defense in the Big 12 so far this year. Dave will do well.

I like Aranda as a coach, but the knock on him is that he’s not the best recruiter.

Fickell is a mid west guy and if he would come down here, I think the first high profile job that came up in the big 10 would be his to turn down.

Fickell is elite man. The way he has built the offense with Ridder the last 2 years is really impressive. Used to think he was just another good big 10 type coach, but everything about the way Cincy plays impresses me.

But I have no qualms about Aranda either. You can tell he does not have much talent to work with but the team is very well disciplined and well coached.

Recruiting isn’t rocket science, the idiot we have now knows how to do it.

Of a potential coach’s shortcomings that’s the least of my worries here

Disagree. Only OSU would tempt him to leave and he ain't going back there ever...

This board needs to slow down on Aranda. Say he had been the DC at Bama rather than LSU, there’s not a single person on this board who would be advocating for him.

The complaints about the coordinator hires, learning on the job, etc, would be true of Aranda here as the HC. Woodward will aim much higher.

Aranda is actually more of a sure thing in my mind, though maybe someone smarter can show me why that's wrong. He's proven himself defensively in spades. Just has to get a good offensive coordinator.

Fickell could be the next great, or he could be another guy that doesn't end up translating from G5 to P5.

So what? Ed Orgeron is (allegedly) a great recruiter. Les Miles was a great recruiter.

And look at the product they put out on the field, Mike’s towards the end and Ed every year but 2019.

Aranda can coach and he’s smart enough to understand he has to have good recruiters on his staff if it’s not his strongpoint.

I’d also argue that players want to play for guys that can make them better and get them ready for the NFL.

Dave Aranda turned Duke Riley into an NFL draft pick and turned Patrick Queen into a first round pick.

That will get recruits to sign.

And LSU is fortunate to be right in the middle of one of the best recruiting grounds in the country.

It’s not like Nebraska, Notre Dame or even Tennesse where those programs can’t compete with just local talent.

LSU can.

Aranda may not be the best recruiter but he’s be good enough and he can actually coach the players to get better than they are the day they get to campus.

So other than his evaluation of talent and lack of organization building skills, he’s a good coach? I think he’s a good offensive mind but we need someone who is a clear leader of an organization.

Fickel came from a big time program at osu. He has done well at cincy and probably a better recruiter. Fickel is the man.

Maybe I'm biased but I'd take Aranda as well. LSU could be a career landing spot for him. I don't know that he would leave for another job unless he has NFL aspirations.
