re: LSU's Saliou Niang ruled eligible to compete in 2026-27

All 3 of Niang, Clark, and Dessert are critically important to the quality and depth of this team. If I had to pick one I would take Dessert is the most important due to the lack of height on this team overall. Need more size to compete in conference. Dessert provides that height with experience and good thickness to him as well.

We could use another big. Gilad Levy or Brice Dessert would be good additions
Levy is a long term project, from a playability standpoint. He's enormous, but also not close to being ready to make an impact on the SEC level.

All the news reports say cleared by both the SEC and NCAA. It’s no coincidence they Luis is no longer going to be part of the program. Sounds like a deal was struck.
After the whole Kiffin/football nonsense with the SEC, I’m pretty pretty sure Luis was going to be the sacrificial lamb.

Pearson looks like the live action version of a Disney character.

Just heard Hunt talking with Glen West. West said he thinks Niang will be the best two-way player in the SEC. It was also mentioned that Wade compared Niang to Tari Eason. I'd take another Tari Eason

He’s like a smaller version of Pascal Siakam. He’s going to get 13-15 points and 6-8 rebounds without a play being run for him.

I was concerned about the 4-man roster, not because I thought we'd end up with 4 players, but because I thought we might get screwed by the powers that be on guys like Niang and have to fill with less desirable players or even walk-ons.
I am no longer concerned about being a team that struggled in the SEC due to a lack of talent. The last two weeks are getting me excited.
I'll be at my irrational expectations to start the season now.

Levy is not going to be playable, he's waay too slow. If and when Dessert gets cleared, we have two legit bigs. Can't remember the last time that was the case. Maybe the Naz Reid year?

I was also concerned.
but now it appears realistic to assume we will have the UCF 5, plus 3 more, Clark, niang, and dessert. wade has said in the past he really only wants to play 8 in the rotation.
plus still have big neck on the bench ready to smash

You are too rationale of a poster to have been concerned. Wade pretty much flat out said, we are going to have everybody except RJ Luis. He just didn't call out people by name, but it was crystal clear that is what he meant.
Whenever you pay attention to what each situation was, there was pretty much zero chance anybody else could prevent LSU from getting their players cleared, while also allowing players from the pretty much exact same situations to be eligible, even within the SEC. There was just no way anybody could justify that happening.
Of course, the Jamar's of the world were going to be in full on panic mode, and destroy every thread with the doom and gloom takes. He is going to do that about everything, all throughout the season though.

Is he more playable than Pearson? We need someone to spell Ruzic and not be a total liability. At 7'3", 240+, he should at least be able to take up space on defense.

Dessert and Ruzik will be your Centers. Guys like Levy or Pearson will come in vs a 7 footer for a couple minute if one of the first two foul out or are in real foul trouble and need a quick spell.

I am predicting final four, and I have repeatedly described wade as the best coach in the country. its interesting how message boards will reverse your opinion 180 degrees and argue against imagined takes.
I am literally the biggest fan of wade of all time, and the most irrationally positive optimist on LSU basketball to ever live.
this is why we should stick to the topic, basketball and not represent what other posters believe.
so again, my "doom and gloom take" is final four.
