It seems shocking that UGA is that low.

What I found interesting aside from Arky's endowment vs. overall population is both Kentucky's and Alabama's endowments. Both sates have similar populations to Louisiana in terms of numbers and at least demographically, Alabama's is very similar, but the amount given is much higher than Louisiana's and neither of those states could be construed as "rich"

So instead of giving money to Alleva to mismanage we should give money to F King to mismanage.

F that

I am very disappointed in what I have seen from the LSU administration from an academic standpoint over the past 20 years.

Allow me to dispatch this fool, barney because you have made good points but some people cannot see the difference.....therefore

F King Alexander would have nothing......NOTHING to do with the handling of this money or even in the investment of said funds of the Foundation.

I know, I know you are still pissed that FKing intervened and shot down the massive climax you were planning on having when Miles was going to be let go and Jimbo would be riding into B.R. triumphant on a chariot .....sorry about that.

From an academic standpoint, Alexander has to fund and adequately staff a university of 31,500 students. He has to do this with a relatively low endowment and a state legislature that likes to take LSU (and other state universities) to the chopping block at budget time because other things must be totally funded as per the state constitution and numerous constitutional amendments that we as a population so blindly voted in favor for.

The purpose of Louisiana State University is to provide higher learning to the citizens of the state of Louisiana so that they can one day become productive citizens. It's purpose is not primarily to amuse certain people with athletics for 3.5 hours on 12-14 non consecutive Saturdays in primarily the Fall semester

The irony here too, is that a larger endowment would certainly lower the reliance on tax revenues for funding, and remove the crooked politics from the equation.

I specifically don't donate to LSU because I want as little money as possible going to this state's government. I went to LSU and it's embarrassing how they handle their money.

You really do not know what you are talking about. The state does not get to touch that money in any way shape or form.

Endowment funds are managed and distributed by the LSU Foundation. Not the University Administration.

The same LSU foundation that F King Alexander is heavily involved with and hired an ex Bobby Jindal appointee to be its president? Sounds trustworthy to me!

And nearly all endowed funds are established for specified accounts and purposes (e.g. scholarship w/ criteria, professorship, or a specific program such as Tiger Band

And the military also "establishes all of its funds for specific accounts" and has yearly and departmental budgets but they still spend $600 on a roll of duct tape. Not sure if you don't understand how bureaucratic dumbassery/corruption works or if you just want to be disagreeable

All three charitable entities at LSU are private, not for profit organizations that are not run by the state of Louisiana.

King Alexander has no oversight with the board of directors. And Stephen Moret left the LSU Foundation last year.

A family memeber of mine established an endowed scholarship. Every year we receive bios on the students, thank you notes, get to meet them, and receive an account statement with the amounts awarded to the students, invested back in, etc.

You're claiming these students are in on it?

It appears that LSU Foundation donations also go towards your TAF points too. So there's that.

If only the funding and management of the LSU system could be divorced from the uncertainties and excesses of politics...
This would take, literally, a Constitutional Amendment, but it would be worth it.
