Had to edit because I didn't want to post false information. I originally asked if JJ was owed 3 million dollars if he was fired. Thanks to CubsFanBudMan for his research.

I am talking about him being fired at the end of this season. If he's fired mid season (which he should), then the price is even higher. This article about his contract extension is from 2014.....

After leading LSU to consecutive postseason appearances in his first two season as head coach, becoming just the second coach in the history of the program to do so, head coach Johnny Jones’ contract extension and raise were approved by the school’s Board of Supervisors. According to the school release Jones’ deal now runs through 2019, and his total compensation has been raised to $1.5 million per year.

If it's true that he has a $3MM buyout, all I can say is bravo Alleva. Well done.

I don't know the wording of the actual contract, but yes, Jones is locked up through 2019. Simple math tells you the buyout is $3 mill absent some contractual language otherwise.

Thank God Alleva had the astute foresight to overpay and then give a raise to a coach who had no market other than North Texas. Thank God he also had the foresight to lock Jones up with an unnecessary extension to keep all those other big time programs from knocking at his door after just two years on the job which featured a 9-9 conf. record in year one and an underacieving '13-'14 NIT appearance in year two. Joe saw the greatness in Jones that no other program had been able to see in the 13 years prior.

I tend to agree with another poster from last night. Alleva is a robot sent from the future to frick up LSU sports. There's really no other logical conclusion as to why he is still here.

F. King surrounds himself with employees that are even less competent than him. Job security!

At the time the extension was fine. We had gotten out of the cellar and Simmons was on the way to do big things. A modest raise on a fairly cheap contract made sense.

Every time LSU gets a new basketball coach I think to myself "Well it can't get any worse than what we had before." but somehow it keeps getting worse. Have we reached an all time low? It it possible for Joe to find a coach worse than Johnny Jones? Somewhere out there, there's a coach worse than JJ, and I believe Joe has the ability to find him and bring him to LSU.

Alleva is the only person who gives insane, stupid contract provisions to guys with no leverage. Perhaps more troubling is he continues to hire people with no leverage.

Thank God he hired Beth Torina (after originally fricking up that hire), or he would have failed at every single hire he's made.

No, that is not true. If you're going to google articles on his contract, then google his actual contract. According to page 27 of the below link, liquidating damages will be $400k per year.

No, we would owe him about $967,000 if done today. That would be payable over the next 2 years and 5 months (approx $33,000/month).

I would think the money to pay off Jones could be raised pretty easily.

Expect Jones to be here throughout the duration of his contract. They wont buy him out, unless a TAF heavy hitter comes forward, I dont know of any BB heavy hitters.

There aren't many. However the heavy hitters dont donate much to the program and have waaaaaay too much say of who gets hired and fired and what goes on.

Between Miles and Jones...LSU can start competing with the Saints in the dead money debacle, at least on a college scale...no one but the federal government can compete with the Saints on a professional scale.
