There’s a lot of chatter that LSU-Oklahoma might be a permanent fixture in the rivalry week. I’m not hearing negative feedback from OTB. Good points have been made.

-Two storied programs that battle for the same recruits.

-3 matchups all time. 2 being in the past 20 with titles on the line each time.

-Arkansas pairs better with Missouri than they do with LSU. A&M has the little brother vibe and LSU never got into it. I doubt neither OU nor LSU will view the other side as little brother. They’ll hate each other for sure but there’s a level of respect.

-Bedlam (Oklahoma State vs Oklahoma) isn’t coming back. A&M vs LSU Thanksgiving weekend isn’t coming back with UT in the fold now.

-Two very passionate fan bases in two states that aren’t very far apart. Then you factor in the amount of Sooner and Tiger fans that reside in Texas. Norman and BR are easy drives for these people.

It honestly makes a lot of sense.

That’s the problem. How can one be a rival having only played 3 times?

Should be Arkansas.

Good luck rotating out the Egg Bowl/Iron Bowl/Florida & FSU games from the Rivalry Week slot.

Oklahoma and LSU is a battle of 2 huge brands. I think this could grow into a cool end of the year rivalry. I'm excited to play OU and would rather play them than Arkansas.

I rather the Arkansas game the Friday after Thanksgiving. But that's just me.

People get this all mixed up. It’s a permanent game being played on what people have nick named “rivalry week”.

It doesn’t mean OU has to be LSU’s rival right away. It means all other SEC teams have an opponent they’re committed to play permanently while OU & LSU do not. Therefore it makes the most sense for us to play them. Maybe it becomes a juicy rivalry. Maybe it doesn’t. At the very least it’ll be a competitive series between two juggernauts fighting for a CFP slot.

If you think a program with a history of Oklahoma’s will sit back and get rag dolled in the SEC allowing LSU to rattle off 8 in a row before finally winning one, you’re mistaken.

You trying to kill cfb clucker?
Rivalries are important & why schools like OU/UT, USC/UCLA stick together during realignment.

Imagine the last week of the season without an Ohio St-Michigan, iron bowl, or FL/FSU.

Now that I think about it maybe that’s what the SEC is going for with LSU-OU. An Ohio State-Michigan type of game

do NOT take the bait on this.

saddling LSU with Oklahoma as a permanent opponent sounds like something Nick Saban would make happen.

Bingo. Plus if A$M can ever become consistently good, that yearly matchup with Texas will be juicy for the SEC

Arkansas has more history with LSU than they do either OU or Mizzou, and OU/Mizzou were in the Big 8 and have a lot of history together themselves. So I thought OU/Mizzou would end up in rivalry week while LSU/Arkansas got back together with A&M reuniting with Texas.

But honestly I wouldn't hate it if OU/LSU became a mainstay in rivalry week. There's potential there and I'm sure once some games have been played and the fanbases have mingled together for some tailgates I wouldn't be surprised if it developed into a new rivalry that both fans can enjoy.

Right now the sec is on a 1-7 model. So Oklahoma is our permanent? Only snag on that is when Texas and Oklahoma agreed to come to the sec they made an agreement with sec to keep RRR. So under 1-7 not Oklahoma. Would rotate

What about 3-6. Yes for sure possible but the only reason sec isn’t doing 9 games right now is because ESPN won’t pay for it. If you remember ESPN just suffered a massive layoff and not as profitable with cord cutting. Maybe they will pay for that 9th game or let the sec sell it to another network.

B1G made game tiers with their tv negotiations much better. Broke up their games into tiers and sold the tiers. Not the whole thing

While I get what you are saying, but rivalries are not about logic.

I cannot imagine Oklahoma would be happy about Ok St not being on their schedule.

This (at least for the moment..) is a contrived "rivalry"..

No they are not. The 2024 schedule is its own thing, nothing has been announced for 2025 and beyond.
