11. LSU Tigers (14-1)
Previous ranking: Unranked
This week: at Florida (Wednesday), vs. Arkansas (Saturday)

LSU bounced back nicely from its lone loss of the season against Auburn, having as good a week as anyone. In fact, the Tigers likely would have earned Team of the Week honors if not for Miami's road win at Duke on Saturday night. Their defense continues to perform at a truly elite level, holding Kentucky to 60 points on 71 possessions, and Tennessee to 67 points on 72 possessions. No opponent has made more than one-third of its 3s against LSU this season, and only one team has turned it over on fewer than 20% of its possessions. One thing worth monitoring this week is the status of guard Xavier Pinson. He landed awkwardly in the second half against Tennessee and needed to be helped to the locker room. He did return to the bench later in the game, and early signs are that he avoided a major injury.

Didn't even make team of the week with two top 15 wins

We need to keep the pedal down. Don’t get complacent. I have a feeling there’s no way WW will let that happen

Winning at UF won’t be easy. They are desperate for a league win.

Yeah but according to many on the rant we are horribly coached and suck because we beat 2 Top 20 Teams in one week.

I don't believe The General has changed defenses from last year to this year...the difference is this year he has the athletic personnel to run his defense effectively.

Remember last year how slow they were on the switch to defend the three? I remember threads on the rant and flippant posts in game threads about how ineffective we were last year at guarding the three. Now that we have players like Murray, Mwami, Fudge, Gains, etc. with their length and quickness, we are guarding the three at an elite level.

Very true, especially with Pinson out.

You're right in terms of the press. We didn't press that much last year because we were only 7 deep. This year we are 9 deep and could be 10 if O'Neal would hurry up and get healthy.

Man, if we could go 10 deep the level of energy that could be sustained on the court would be fantastic.

It is crazy how those "junk" defenses can't be easily solved by top 15 opponents.

That just goes to show you how HUGE road wins are in CBB. There is a reason they count for almost double in terms of the NET formula and why they are in very high consideration for the committee come March. Miami winning AT Duke was a huge win for them.

LSU has only played one road game, at Auburn, so it is not a big deal now. But road wins are the only things missing from the resume at the moment. Hopefully that starts to change on Wednesday.

Georgia Tech should have counted as a road game, we played them in Atlanta.

We had the athleticism last year. We just had some divas that didn't WANT to play defense.

Free's & 3s need to get much better.

What about NIL deal...clinics by the players, open to the public, where they 'teach' shooting free's & 3s. Basically additional practice sessions but paid. Could even make it some sort of competition with bonuses to incentivize performance further.

This LSU defense isn't just good to this point. They might be historically good. I think using defensive efficiency is a good metric to use instead of points per game to account for tempo.

From the TeamRankings Site

2000: 0.860 (6)
